Kobe.

Better question is what if Kobe/Timmy went the modern day route and teamed up with each other when they were both in their prime :sas2:

Timmy was very close to trying to go that route with T Mac and Grant Hill in Orlando. David Robinson cut his vacation short to meet with him and Pop to convince him to stay in San Antonio

Both teams would’ve drafted differently if they had the other player. Idk how Shaq or pau would’ve operated with TD and no serviceable wing player and idk how Kobe would do with TP and Manu with no big

Lakers had an All Star wing in Eddie Jones when Shaq first got there. He also played a pretty good level for years after LA and was a good defender
Honestly that would've been a really good squad with Duncan, Shaq and Eddie Jones

I also want to remind you how Amare figured out and destroyed Duncan right before he left to the Knicks

people will probably bring up stats or what not but it was a wrap when Amare got midrange down... and was too athletic for Duncan to meet at the rim
Duncan obviously is a legend and had an entire career of peak... but there were nikkas who could give him all types of trouble

spurs had too much poise and were so well run ... they beat the Heat with backdoor cuts in one of the lowest rated finals and broke the team up
I make Duncan seem overrated but he was still underrated. I'm just saying there's other cats in the league who could match him

cant really say many people figured out or stopped Kobe from doing what he wanted all the time

Yeah and we were getting swept all through the late 90s with Eddie starting. He was pretty washed by the 00s too

Great point!! I have always wondered how Eddie Jones would of worked out rather than Glen Rice on those Lakers championship teams, EJ was the perfect 3rd fiddle during that period or 3 & D player today.....

Above the fray.

J.R. Rider, Reuben Patterson played decently against Kobe. Bonzi , Brandon Roy, and Cuttino Mobely had decent showings against young Kobe.

Amare scored against Duncan, but he didn't exactly lock him down.....so saying he figured him out is an overstatement.

ill concede to this

because you're right... although I wanted to say none of those dudes lasted

Amar'es only real prime was in those last 2 years before he left Phoenix... thats when he really figured out his entire offense
so its similar to those dudes you mentioned guarding Kobe

I miss Brandon Roy... he had next... Blazers have always been fukked and were one step away from a ring

Anyone saying it isn't close is tripping. It's close either way you cut it, but I do think there's an answer that it more correct than the other---->that answer is Duncan...

He was Modern Russell, slash Pre-Steph in a big's form. Duncan's presence changed every action on the floor for both teams in a way that goes beyond box scores...

In real time no one was entertaining a Kobe vs Duncan comparison until 2005 at the very earliest. I actually think it was a year or two after that, because I recall reading SI or SN or some sports rag in Summer '05 and they'd started a "watch" on how high Duncan could climb the All-Time boards. He was only 8 years in, in '05, and already stupid accomplished, had been in conversation as best player in ball since '99...

Kobe's late career run in the second half of his career from '06 on closed the gap but for me, wasn't otherworldly enough to warrant jumping him over Duncan. I think it's close enough as I said earlier, to where I don't think muhfukkas wilding to favor Kobe, but I think the clear separation of Duncan as an anchor on both ends, and as a guy who walked into The League instantly crushing shyt, make Duncan the easy choice for me...
