Tim Duncan (no bias 😁)

Kobe was definitely more skilled but Duncan just got it done. His career numbers could have been a lot better but not only was he a great overall superstar but he's a goat teammate as well.
Have you heard of any players that has anything negative to say about him?

What was the reaction when he sat out the tourney game against the USVI?

I'd imagine that he was already a national hero, but he reached mythical status after that.

*TD was as skilled at his position as Kobe was at his. What Shaq called him as a joke, really applied to him "The Big Fundamental"

How is Duncan 5-1 as a #1 player when he only has 3 FMVPs?

:sas2:

Voter fatigue and narratives. Duncan was easily the #1 on the '07 Spurs but they were looking to give someone else some shine, would have definitely won Finals MVP in '13 if the Spurs had gotten that rebound, and was still the best player in '14 but Kawhi had the LeBron boost.

Bird was the #1 player on the '81 Celtics, Magic was the #1 player on the '88 Lakers, and Steph was the best player on the '15 Warriors too.

I was living stateside at the time(I met/saw him play in 93/94) but my understandings was that there were a lot of jealousy for him. He gets a lot lot more love now as he should, but I wouldn't say he was highly favored "in the trenches" of the island (at that time) if you get what I'm saying.
Mainstream and headlines will always post the positive articles and appraisals of its most accomplished athlete ever by default and the people did/do love him but I would hear stuff like they didn't care when he came to town unless he was spending. So it was sometimes mixed.

I would say he's more than earned his respect and he's probably revered as something similar to"Mythical" status now.
Especially after his support and contributions with the hurricanes and other natural disasters that had happened over the recent years.
But I honestly want to say he say out that game out of respect and the backlash it would have caused (him) down there.

As skilled as Duncan was, I just feel that Kobe displayed his longer throughout the duration of their careers.
I believe that KG was more skilled than Duncan too but I do not think neither was better.
Duncan was skilled but he also had like a Draymond Green effect, an attribute that's hard to quantify.
where he did and fit in where he needed to be to make the right plays for his team.

poll results must have kobe stans in here like...

rFCu0Ew.gif

:mjlol:

out of all the stanbases on this board they are the most rabid. but it's ok brehs. people don't hate kobe, they just have different opinions. i think it's hard to compare the two, but if i built a team from scratch i'd start with timmy. if i already had a decent team, but needed an elite scorer i'd pick kobe.

2 MVPs
2 MVP runner-up finishes
3 Finals MVPs
5 titles as the team leader
In 2003 carried arguably the weakest supporting cast of any Finals MVP in the last 25 years
15 All-NBA teams
15 All-Defensive teams
157-94 career playoff record
Ranked higher in every media poll than any other 21st-century player other than LeBron

Winning by 30 votes in the Coli poll even despite all the hot-take posters who only watch highlights :umad:

Outside of Bron that's the best resume since MJ and no one else really comes close.

And TD's 5-1 Finals record is better than Kobe's 2-1 Finals record as a #1 AND Kobe's 5-2 Finals record overall, but for some reason Kobestans are desperately avoiding that talking point this time around.
2003 Tim was an underrated carry job that no1 really talks about

TD “just got it done” except actually defending his titles or even getting to the finals back to back in his prime :mjlol:

:sas2:

Because for TD being the 3rd leading scorer on his team and average defensively in 2014 means he’s a #1 still :dead:

For TD never defending his title or getting to the finals back to back in his prime means he was “getting it done”

Bruh you stay lying on me, you so married to your hatred of LeBron fans you confuse nikkas 😆. I ain't never said shyt about Pau or Artest in The Finals...

I do think Harden was a better basketball player than Wade, but as I said I don't have him higher All-Time. And I think Harden is Evolutionary Oscar, they have very similar profiles as players...

Which nullifies your opinion on these matters

:laff:Y'all really feed into this shyt. How are you the best player on your team scoring 15ppg and being 4th out of 5 starters in defensive rating and 7th overall on your team? But when Kobe was dropping 48 and 16 on the Spurs in 2001 he was just a sidekick

and in 2007 Finals TD averages 18ppg on 44% shooting while TP averages 24ppg on 56% shooting including 57% from 3 but TD was better and the voters were just looking to give someone else shine :laff: this forum is pathetic
