Who the hell started this Nerd = Smart nonsense?

That's definitely what a lot of social interaction comes down to, confidence. With confidence, you defy those labels and stereotypes, now what is true, is that the majority of "nerds" lack confidence, and that's where the stereotype comes in.

Case in point, not too long ago, I got a chick who didn't even fukk with anime to watch attack on titan with me and chill

Bold is going to happen most times if the person likes you anyway. At least on the short term or if its a not too often thing.

Not all nerds are smarter but most nerds are smarter than non-nerds and many smart people are nerds because nerds engage in intellectual pursuits and conversations, which both attract and reward smart people. It's similar to scientists. Not all scientists are super smart but many are because science is an intellectually inclined field and rewards the smartest people with prestige, success, etc.

That said, a person can be smart and not be a stereotypical "nerds"per se. Many businesspeople, military generals, etc are very smart and don't walk around with books and glasses. They do tend to engage in intellectual pursuits though, just different to what a science nerd might do.
