Ali would win. He was in the ring with straight killers - Foreman, Liston, Frazier, Ken Norton, all much better fighters than Tyson. We had this debate at work the other day and all the heads that chose Tyson I asked them to name 2 fighters that Tyson beat, none of them could :mjlol:

Its hard to really know how good Tyson was in his prime because there was no decent competition around :yeshrug:

In both of their primes it would be so close to call.

Ali may have had to the GOAT chin. He took some hellacious shots in the post-jail part of his career and rarely went off his feet.

Tyson was like a more advanced version of Joe Frazier, better technically with KO power in both hands.

I think Tyson would have some good moments against Prime pre-prison Ali. Ali played around alot and gave guys chances to hit him. But once Ali stopped playing and started floating and stinging could Mike keep the pressure up for 12 - 15 rounds??

The Ali Frazier fought was a lot slower and took more punches. That Ali would struggle with Tyson but could gut out a decision.

The Ali strategy would be the same as Lennox Lewis's for beating tyson

Use your height reach and reach, keep him at bay with jab and when he gets impatient and tries to force his way in, punish him with a hook or uppercut

Lennox beat Mike 16 years after he first won the heavyweight title.

That Mike had been to prison, bitten Holyfield, and was shot.

Tyson didn’t fight anywhere near the level of competition Ali did. I don’t think Tyson would even beat Foreman

That's a good fight. Tyson might be too quick for Foreman though.

The best fight Tyson ever beat was Larry Holmes and he was

:flabbynsick:

I'd go with Spinks, who even though he was at P4P top 10 fighter when Tyson obliterated him has been somehow written out of history.

And Holmes wasn't washed when Tyson beat him.

Four years after Tyson demolished him, he beat Ray Mercer who gave Holyfield hell and almost killed Tommy Morrison.

Ken Norton was not a better fighter than Tyson.

Neither was Frazier.

Who's is Joe Frazier's best win outside of a past his prime Ali?

I'll give you Liston & Foreman, maybe.

It may look like Frazier vs Ali

Mike was a Quicker, more powerful ,agile, better defensive version of Joe Frazier.

Ali had been out of boxing for 5 years when he fought Frazier. :stopitslime:

Ali was not in his prime after his return. The question was about their prime.

Tyson would beat Foreman.
Equal Power,

Tyson is a more skilled boxer than George, with better defense, and far quicker.

Y'all dudes are too much. George Foreman would have whupped Tyson the same way he whupped Frazier. There was never a fool in boxing history crazy enough to stand toe to toe in the middle of the ring with George Foreman in his prime.

Styles make fights.

Ali is hands down the greater fighter. But Mike is also exactly the type of fighter that could give Ali a serious problem.

I think Tyson has a good chance of knocking him out in 3. If Ali makes it to round 4 Mike is done for. Tyson 6/10, just based on style.

They got knocked out because they stood toe to toe with Foreman. He telegraphed all his punches and he didn't have nearly the speed of Tyson. It not like they didn't see the punch coming.

Ali. Tall, rangy boxers like James Tillis were able to go the distance with Tyson. If guys like Tillis or Bonecrusher Smith could take Tyson the distance, I have no reason to believe that Ali couldn't, especially considering the punching power that he has gone up against in his fights. I don't think that Tyson would beat Foreman, either, and neither does he if hearsay is to be believed about a possible fight between Foreman and Tyson in the early 90s.

Tyson was not knocking out George Foreman. The only reason that Ali knocked out Foreman was because of the heat in Congo and Ali was able to get the fight into middle rounds.

Tyson's best attribute was getting early knockouts. His only chance against Foreman would be to take him into later rounds, but Tyson himself struggled the longer a fight went on. Take a look at the round that Buster Douglas knocked Tyson out in. Then realize that Buster Douglas is not even in the same area code of fighter as Ali and Foreman. Those jabs that Ali and Foreman threw would have been terrible for Tyson.
