Ehh we're going in circles
and will have to agree to disagree
None of those games incite the level of discussion or reaction of TLOU. A simple Youtube search will suffice.
Again, its not your typical videogame story; good defeats evil. Everyone feels good.

Going in circles? Absolutely not.

I just told you, nobody can do what Hideo Kojima, CDPR, or Santa Monica did. You aren't realizing those games takes years of experience and are backed by good Authors. The Witcher has numerous books. Same goes for God of War. And Hideo did his own thing as far as I'm concerned. That alone puts them far above Naughty Dog. And there is nothing typical about Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk. Both those games had evil lose/lose situations. Did you even play them???

Go read the books, otherwise you have no leg to stand on.

Would also like to add Miyazaki, the way he tells its story, lore etc in a way that can only be achieved in this medium its pretty fantastic, not to mention all the symbolism, the incredible attention to detail etc.

Just the simple fact that the rest of this thread is ognna be spent arguing about ND kinda proves it.

no one else is in contention. I’m not counting CDPR because like i said, it’s kind of a cheat code that both their major games are based off stories with pre-existing lore. The character writing is still top notch in those games though but you can’t put a name on the pen

no one. I know it's a very minority opinion, but I don't give a flying fukk about story in video games. Unstoppable cutscenes (especially those with QTE tied to them) drive me insane. Dog, I don't care. I like mechanics. What can we do in this MF. Most of these stories are so unbelievably boring and pale to what's readily available in the grand canon of literature. Once we get some games doing magical realism on the level of Sorrentino or Bolaño, I'll tap in. Until then, I'm mashing X

I can't enjoy a single player game that doesn't have a good plot when its supposed to :(

The Last of Us is surface level writing like most games. They took a zombie outbreak and just added a twist with the cordyceps fungus. It's just a tale of revenge in a world of surviving humans. Anybody could do that. The story isn't anything that hasn't already been told and could be done again. Is it good? Sure. But in no way is it the top story telling within the industry.

When you think top story telling it should Metal Gear Solid, God of War, and Witcher 3.

They don’t write big in-depth plots, they are character writers.

the new god of war games mimick ND’s storytelling Which is why some people don’t like them as much as the original trilogy where kratos barely has a personality or memorable cast but had big epic set pieces

and while I love kojima, there’s probably large swathes of people who can’t really keep up with how convoluted and self indulgent his writing gets.

Great stories need both. You can't have a good plot with boring brain dead characters. And you can't have good characters but a terrible plot. All the games I listed include both big depth plots and well written characters. They certainly aren't empty. What about Zelda, Skyrim, Fallout, Mass Effect, and Red Dead Redemption 2? You putting Naughty Dog over those too?

Naughty Dogs plots aren’t teribble though, they just aren’t the focus.

its like saying a movie like reservoir dogs or 12 angry men is bad because they don’t focus on plot over characters.
