in other words is it an abberant view of them that is the arbiter of what it racist and what is not, or it is the factual (social albeit but broader) definition of what they are that actually determines racism betweeen groups?
if a racist gringo attacked a black women because he said she was not human does that mean that he could not be prosectued under racially aggravated legislation because "not human" is not a "race".
it seems as if certain groups get special privileges beyond what their position in society or daily lived racism would suggest is appropriate. and i guess that happens because there is an imbalance of power in society between the different oppressed groups.
Whoopi fukked up basically and for someone who's been in Hollywood as long as she has, it's kind of dumb. Historically speaking, Hitler's mein Kampf was about the master race and how Jews, poles, gypsy's, etc were inferior races. Are Jews a race, are gypsy's a race, etc, can't speak for Hitler but the Holocaust was about race in the lense through Hitler's. Other groups were targeted outside of race like homosexuals, disabled.
I don't think what she said was anti semitic I just think it was either ignorant or in the context of how she viewed raced currently. Either way if I would her I would have just nodded. If she said Jews aren't a race then it's a completely different conversion but to say the Holocaust wasn't about race when Hitler's whole campaign was to be the superior race and to exterminate inferior races for the rest of mixing with a superior race is just plain ignorant.

it’s more complex story than to just label it “racism” or teach it as 1 race vs the next or even use race back then as we think of our modern day definition of “race” which is a very Black/white idea defined by our history of Slavery
