Gumbo is definitely unique to the region. Most other places just make beef stew, chop up sausages and call it gumbo. I don’t even eat it unless there is a lady cooking it up with fatty upper arms

Fatty upper arms is the qualifying attribute? ....seems reasonable :ehh:

I’m from Mobile.
North American cajun history doesn’t really start until after the French and Indian war when French Canadians were kicked out of Canada and came down here. (Which is why Cajun and the Arcadian people have a similar name )
Mobile was established in 1702 and served as an administrative hub. If it was first recorded in Mobile doesn’t mean it originated there, it was just recorded there.

Gumbo originated around the 1760s in Louisiana. People down in Mobile don’t even claim it like they do out there, and jambalaya and etoufee are good but not staples of our diet. Same with boudin.

We had the first Mardi Gras parades though that is true. Mobile is the port of entry for fire ants though

In Mobile we eat more of a traditional soul food diet with seafood mixed in.

Gumbo isn't acadian/cajun at all, it's (afro)creole. Boudin most likely is, but we weren't talking about that. Creole history starts in Mobile Alabama. First black gumbo recipe comes from Mobile.

Many historians do believe it comes from Alabama and not Louisiana. They have just as solid as a case as Louisiana does.

And mobile does have it's own variety of gumbo and roux.

Real talk though people from philly are fukked up. They will kill for sports. This wasn’t covered by the media but my son is friends with a well knows Vikings players daughter. Anyways we were just chopping it up and philly came up and his was wife was like

“strait up fukk philly “
when they went to the playoff game on there way out fans were throwing glass bottles at the whole family ( kids and wives and shyt ) and the kicker was they actually slashed like half the teams tires. Said all the wives and shyt stayed low key cuz everyone was out looking to get into some shyt

Y’all are crazy over there I’ll let you get the cheesesteak for me

Show me the data because the oldest date I see is 1760s Louisiana.
Here is something from The Atlantic on it

and I am from Mobile. I grew up there and I can tell you we ain’t originate that, no such thing as Mobile style gumbo and fox 10 only put that up to boost tourism.

edit: are you from Mobile?

Going with the gumbo peeps. I understand there are some bad ones out there but they swear Louisiana gumbo is so prestigious when my fam makes some pretty good gumbo. I don’t eat either of these anymore tho. Atleast with philly the cheese steaks are actually good and ny pizza is second to none
