A massive reason is because Atlantic could not quantify their fan base. LB kept saying, look we've got a big fan base online. But this was before Twitter, Facebook likes, Instagram, etc. It wasn't possible to measure impressions, or likes, or fans. This was the early days of online message boards, and besides saying "Look, we've got passionate fans and a lot of people posting about us on Okayplayer and other online websites" there wasn't much to say. That was the ringtone rap era, and the era of only being able to see album sales and radio spins. Little Brother was just a few years too early. If they came out at the same time as a lot of people they inspired, the technology would've been up to speed. They were the first big hip-hop act to get a deal and get onto a major because of their mp3 files. They were on the forefront of that, and the technology wasn't there yet for Atlantic to measure it.

I don't usually neg on here but boy I was tempted to with this post. Phonte's introspective/from the heart stuff shyts on J.Cole's best attempts at it. Cole ain't clever enough to write this...



And Cole is more marketable because its always going to be easier to sell a tall lightskin dude spitting shallow social justice rhymes.

It's on the way. It's called No News is Good News and he said that the title is literal. If you don't hear any news on the project then that means he's probably finishing it up.

people keep saying that they were 5-years late & 5-years early, but they came out when Kanye west was at his peak. that's a better wave to ride than the plant era or the rawkus wave.

they were pretty dry outside of a few tracks. their lineup on paper was better than their actual product. plus, the minstrel show didn't have the type of content that was expected, altho people in here are saying that it was the dumbed-down version for the label??

and no fault of their own, the label did a piss-poor job.
I didn't even know they were on atlantic. LOL. that's a shame.
and with that said, theres no excuse for them not to have gotten a Kanye stimulus single. they could've let 9th wonder still do the track. all they needed was a mediocre Kanye verse to get some of his fanbase. cuz they only had the backpack crowd. they didn't really hit the neo-soul market like that. they didn't have to be so underground.

Honestly, they should have made more noise with their previous label, rather than jumping the Atlantic gun. The buzz was there but not enough to get into the mainstream market. Have them dudes been a bit more patient in the game and allow Justus League to get their name out there, instead of being another TDE (Little Brother>>>>>the rest). The skies the limit.

Nah breh listen to the track I posted. Cole is really bearing his soul on the track. You feel it more thats Cole's strength he knows how to put emotion in his music and be the people's champion.

This is another example I feel like it goes beyond writing

Phonte's bread and butter is partly that market right now, so they must've tapped into it during their LB years.

Nah I don't feel it at all, and it is not impressive. J.Cole's most impressive verse doesn't even match up well versus Big Pooh's verse dealing with the same subject matter so he definitely aint fukking with Phonte






Cole can't write this...nikka too wrapped up in shallow introspective raps
