Exactly. If you're going to wake up everyday thinking about God anyway you may as well be religious :manny:

So if a rape victim is plagued by memories of their ordeal and speaks on the damaging effect rape has on people, they should consider being a rapist? :usure:

This is another thing. People try to marginalize atheists with silly stereotypes and try to pretend that their lack of belief in the silly and stupid is the equivalent of other's belief in it...as if atheism is a religion.

We've evolved to a point where "survival of the fittest" is pointless. Society has insulated humans from quite a few aspects of natural selection. Many an atheist and many a Christian wouldn't survive to pass their genes on otherwise.

Besides, since there is no afterlife, many atheists believe everyone who breathes should maximize their happiness (without harming others) on this godforsaken rock.

Yeah, don't worry about the meme, I was just trolling.

There are two types of Atheists (excluding those who were raised atheist):

The first type are the ones who looked at the evidence between both sides; atheist and theist, and concluded that there is no God.
Atheists like these I respect (and admire to an extent) because they took a fair and balanced look at perhaps one of life's most important question and came to a conclusion, they risked being swayed by either side, losing their faith or gaining faith. These atheists are usually not the militant kind, they have found solace in their decision and may explain or debate their position in a civilized manner if the opportunity arrives.

The second type of atheists are Bitter Ex (Insert Faith Here).

These are the atheists who concluded that there is no God not because of any evidence but their disbelief is fueled by their feeling angry or dissatisfied with God. With religion they see it as an oppressing institution that takes advantage of humanity's best parts in order to achieve power; This point may also start the journey of atheist #1.

These atheists are convinced God doesn't exist based on their feelings about Him (Which is ironically what believers do). Some traumatic event caused them to lose faith and become angry; like the death of a loved one.

They are the bitter, confused ones, because they are angry at a god that isn't supposed to exist.

This type are usually the militant ones and can be found on *****, Reddit and tumblr.

Thank God the coli seems to attract the first type of atheists in general however, excluding @Napoleon who will create a religion based thread every week.
I guarantee he frequents Reddit and tumblr.

You can try and be all PC about it and write about it in platonic language, but the fact of the matter remains that your religiously rooted arguments are poorly formed and defended.

You can try and be all bitter about it and write about it in condescending language, but the fact of the matter remains that your feelings (of the caught variety) rooted argument was poorly formed and defended.

You're just mad I called you out, you have zero problem with the language of what I wrote.

PC language? Have you seen what I write about cacs?
You assume that because I'm on the side of the religious that I can't write about atheists in a respectful manner, that I have to act like you and treat my opponents in an uncivilized manner.

You sound like Richard Dawkins.

Do you frequent Reddit and tumblr?

Where does respect come into play?

I DO NOT respect religious arguments. At all. I don't even tolerate them.

Religious people? I can respect their autonomy but dont ask me to respect your views on reality.

Yep, Richard Dawkins.

And nowhere did I say anything about respecting anybody's arguments, I said I respect the individual in my original post, and then in my second post I said "treating them in a respectful manner" befitting of another human being.

Go retake some Reading Comprehension, your caught feelings are getting in the way of your reading ability.

But first...

Being an Atheist of the ex-religious variety, I can't really say that I am mad at all nowadays. Yes, I went through a period of anger and resentment towards my religious friends and relatives, and myself for holding those same beliefs for so long, but that anger pretty much subsided over time (my somewhat Nihilistic worldview helped the process). Now, I'm perfectly content with letting folks believe in whatever they like so long as they extend me the same courtesy. By the way, I recently saw a video on YouTube that touched on this topic:

I imagine that bargaining would come before anger for most (it certainly did for me), I pretty much agree with her take.
