Plus alot of times the schools tend to push these nikkas in bullsit degrees I remember ESPN did a story on FSU players getting worthless degrees.

Well in order to accomplish something great, you need to really believe in it... No one ever did anything "great" in their lives without really setting a lofty goal and believing in it... With that comes hard work and dedication... If someone really believes they will accomplish something, than hard work and dedication follows... Your cousin wasn't confident and didn't believe in himself because even if he felt short of his dream, he had to atleast accomplish SOMETHING basketballwise

If you put the work in, you can accomplish pretty much anything you want... Cuzzo probably didn't work hard enough, or just flat out wasn't good enough... On the flip side, someone who is good enough can't stroll around thinking mediocre or else they will fail too...

That is great that your white friends think "hmm, one day I'm gonna pay off my mortgage"... But not all white people are like that... I have a few white friends that are thinking "Hey one day I want to own millions of dollars in commercial real estate assets"... It isn't just black people who set high goals for themselves...

There's a finite amount of open "jobs" overseas for basketball players, and almost a non existent market for football players if they don't make it to the NFL. I don't need to know stories, numbers say enough.

There is nothin wrong with being confident or overconfident in yourself. Why be a lame azz introverted, low self esteem, non inspired individual? Nobody is gonna believe in you but YOU.

All the people who have gone on to be successfull rappers,athletes, musicians,doctors etc at some point somebody told them that they couldn't do it. But they kept pushin and made it happen. The sad part is when people dont go after their dreams because of the "fear" of criticism.

Trying to justify that sports leads to college degrees. But yet doesn't point out how many of those sports players never make it to their respective professional league or are broke before 30.

The problem is what they feel success is..

They can play JV basketball, be a manager for varsity, get a job at Fed Ex, have a family and coach a youth YMCA team and be a success imo..

But I have friends and fam that are literally tormented by the thought of that type of life and will sabatouge a sure thing for a pipe dream (without ever putting in 100% effort)

My hoop dreams cousin has quit good paying jobs that my pops and uncle got for him because he felt entititled or slighted...Now time is starting to run out and the reality that he might just end up being a regular n1gga like the rest of us still hasn't sunk in (when in reality he isn't even on the level of us "regular n1ggas" yet)..


And I'm not mad at him and ain't trying to clown him at all.. A part of me actually admires his attitude and outlook and wishes I had a little bit of that ambition and confidence in ME...My question is where does it come from?

And is it a positive attribute to have?

The point is, a lot back men aren't living up to their potential because they have unrealistic dreams without any type of fall back. In the end those same guys end up in dead-end careers, unhappy with life, and end up complaining about black women on the coli. It's pathetic really. Everyone can't be a rapper and a basketball player. Why is that the dreams of so many black men given that it will only be the reality for a few?

I agree that a back up plan should be set up though..I don't dispute that. I agree everyone can't be an entertainer or athlete but there are other things that black males shoot for that are considered only reality for a few. The Nigerian is on here talking about pushing his own product yet folks still find a way to isht on his dream. Now is he wrong for continuing to be highly confident and going forward with what he wants to do?

No he is not wrong and his dream is more realistic (to me) than being a rapper or pro athlete. I respect his hustle.
