Why are black people against black names?

i get into it constantly when a black person turns their nose up at black person with a black name or be like “wow why did their mom name them that”.

its weird to me because every other race’s culture can be displayed through their name. but black people cant have that or its looked down upon as being ghetto.

never heard of mexicans saying they have to name their child Tom so they wont have to worry about getting a job. i know we get profiled for our names in interviews but we have to put a stop to that influencing how we want to exist in this world imo. what are yall thoughts?

I read in a book a while back that more Afrocentric names popped up as a part of the black power movement in the 70s and we were just trying to be prideful and embrace our roots. But of course, the man started using that shyt as a way to discriminate against us. I can’t remember the book and I never looked into it further though

There are definitely some latinos that tend to be infatuated with English names and make fun of other Latinos for having names that are too latin.

Puerto Ricans and Argentinians like English names (Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Michelle Rodriguez, etc...)

Koreans also have names on their birth certificate and the names they use outside of their circle. Daku Lee will all of the sudden be. David Lee.

It’s a extreme c00n mentality and you see it exhibited throughout this forum constantly. Nothing has meaning until people give it meaning. Why can’t a young group of people like African Americans give our names meanings
