There are definitely some latinos that tend to be infatuated with English names and make fun of other Latinos for having names that are too latin.

Puerto Ricans and Argentinians like English names (Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Michelle Rodriguez, etc...)

Koreans also have names on their birth certificate and the names they use outside of their circle. Daku Lee will all of the sudden be. David Lee.

those are entertainers which i get why they do that in the industry i literally thought charlie sheen was white until someone told me otherwise and i got a HD tv and looked at him again :russ:.

You’re not asking the bigger question. Why are black parents concerned their children will be “profiled” when it comes to job applications and not Mexicans? Who’s creating the jobs and who’s hiring?

If we were in an economic position where we didn’t become so fixated in getting to white corporate America and had our own, it wouldn’t be an issue of contention.

Arabs almost never anglicize their children’s names because they’re creating jobs for their own. Jews know they benefit heavily from nepotism with their names.

We try so hard to ingratiate ourselves, we think Christian names will make us more ‘palatable’. The problem is, it may get you into an interview but once they see you’re Black....:mjpls:

it's not just some stage name thing, It's embedded in Thier community. I was hitting off a Puerto Rican chick named Tabitha... She was born in 1988. And she had a brother named Brian.

And I also remember an Argentinian woman making fun of a random Mexican dude for having a "really latin name".

BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE
SOME shyt SOME LITTLE KIDS
CAME UP WITH.

MEXICANS DIDNT COME
UP WITH THEIR NAMES BTW.

THOSE ARE CAC NAMES FROM EUROPE.
SPAIN TO BE EXACT.

YOU CANT COMPARE THOSE HOME MADE NAMES TO NAMES FROM
OTHER COUNTRIES AND
CALL THEM "BLACK" NAMES.

Exactly what I was about to say. If these were traditional African names, it would make sense, but the pro black argument looks silly when you're using pseudo French names. Not to mention they don't really go with the English surnames most of us have. That said, I'm not really that bothered about names :yeshrug:

im speaking on the latter. Temaria, Leterica, jamario, martavius etc.

First, those are not black names. Our ancestors didn't have those names.

Second, the names that you highlighted are actually Italian/Latin derivative names. They are not black.

Frederick Douglas
Harriet Tubman
William Edward Burghardt Dubois
Martin Delaney
Absolom Jones

^^^Those are black names.

when I think of black sounding names I either think of:

the adding a French prefix at the beginning, e.g. LaMichael, DeAndre
(apostrophes optional)

or the Arab in origin name, e.g.
Amir, Jamal, Rashad

or biblical names e.g.
Malachi, Michael, James

I don’t look down on either of these. Even some creative names are cool if there is meaning. Condoleeza is a music term meaning “with sweetness”

But shyt like Da’Coldest is fukking retarded:manny:

Desean
Dusean

Devaughn
Duvaughn

Fax.

I went to school with a few Devante’s but I’m sure their mothers were Jodeci fans :lolbron:

I still love that name tbh.

It’s a extreme c00n mentality and you see it exhibited throughout this forum constantly. Nothing has meaning until people give it meaning. Why can’t a young group of people like African Americans give our names meanings:mjpls:

our ancestors weren’t always our ancestors. They were once people navigating this world, trying to make since of it and leaving their mark. What some ignorantly look down on as hood or ghetto names could hold reverence in the not so distance future.
