So they should have good ol’ Christian names to lessen the blows of police brutality? Or will that reduce the financial inequality in the education system? Will it make CACs less racist? That marijuana name is a huge anomaly. Stupid Caribbean c00n. One yourself.

You one of those idiots who choose to be obtuse about life. Yes White Supremacy exists, now what are you going to do about it besides suck Tariq Nasheed off

No, they should have a name that can allow them to not be stereotyped or disadvantaged when it comes to job searches and opportunities. I just told you I worked with kids in ados neighborhoods so it's not an anomaly. Now dm your sister's and grandmother's info so I can show how much of a Caribbean c00n I am.

You stupid fake deep intellectual idiot. If you are so militant your dumb ass wouldn't be even in America, your like the idiot who said he didn't want to use a AC because the white man invented it. Crash dummy fake militant who never did shi8 for black people but suck Tariq Nasheed dikk* online in real life I would punch your hairline back, then put it in your mother's mouth and make her mumble. I been all over the country and nobody ever came to be with no "you Caribbean " shi* and I've been in deep ADOS places, y'all keep playing these Tariq Nasheed games online until your mom has to have a bbq for you every summer in remembrance.

This. People use the reasoning that their kid won't get a job interview because of their name but their child could have the most American name there is (John Smith) and show up for the interview and still not get the job because they're black.
The way my parents broke it down to me when I was younger was that you actually have an effect on whether (or not) you are hired once you get to the interview. However, if they cross your azz off the list before the face-2face meeting, the you had no shot.

I’d like to compare it to online dating where a good looking breh with a dope personality can be disqualified and rejected simply because of their bad bio. However, This same breh could Knock it out the park with a real world interaction with a woman, because his other characteristics overpower the bio in real life. He got a greater effect on whether he gets chose or not.

Folks assume you’ll even get the interview with one of those names, why make it easier to have your name tossed out.

Every Sharkeisha I meet goes by Keisha anyway, parents don’t think about how the child has to navigate the world without them :yeshrug:

No one defending these names have said their first name either :usure:

Hw has a good point, he’s basically saying that whose to say that a name you accept as Black is not made up either? The difference between LeSsan and Dikembe is time, it’s not like Dikembe is written on the “Galactic Tablet of Black Names” while LeSean isn’t. LeSean is a Black American name and future generation will it accept it as their name.
Calling a name black inherently means that the name is nearly universally accepted in the black community. Generally names that are identified as originating from a specific culture are also very prevalent in that culture. Ain’t another nikka in the world named Da’Coldest. So it’s not a black name.... at least not beyond stereotypically being “black.” If a random Latino made up the name Juliavenequez, you wouldn’t called that an “insert Latin country” name. It’d just be some random name made up by some person from that country.

LaTasha has been fairly universally accepted as a black name in the black community. Kesha, Jarell, Marquis... those could probably considered black names. All that other crazy stuff is just black people using their overactive imaginations. That’s like saying Apple is a white name. Nah... Gwyneth Paltrow is just crazy.

Being black IS the handicap. You're not going to be more accepted or viewed differently just because you're a black Karen, Julie, Mike, or Tom. You can't out name your skin color.

This. People use the reasoning that their kid won't get a job interview because of their name but their child could have the most American name there is (John Smith) and show up for the interview and still not get the job because they're black.

You get it. We’re indoctrinated from the moment we’re born to assimilate into ‘their’ culture, starting with the name we’re given. We need to break free from that.

You’re not asking the bigger question. Why are black parents concerned their children will be “profiled” when it comes to job applications and not Mexicans? Who’s creating the jobs and who’s hiring?

If we were in an economic position where we didn’t become so fixated in getting to white corporate America and had our own, it wouldn’t be an issue of contention.

Arabs almost never anglicize their children’s names because they’re creating jobs for their own. Jews know they benefit heavily from nepotism with their names.

We try so hard to ingratiate ourselves, we think Christian names will make us more ‘palatable’. The problem is, it may get you into an interview but once they see you’re Black....:mjpls:

This is it right here.

i get into it constantly when a black person turns their nose up at black person with a black name or be like “wow why did their mom name them that”.

its weird to me because every other race’s culture can be displayed through their name. but black people cant have that or its looked down upon as being ghetto.

never heard of mexicans saying they have to name their child Tom so they wont have to worry about getting a job. i know we get profiled for our names in interviews but we have to put a stop to that influencing how we want to exist in this world imo. what are yall thoughts?
Most condescending insecure shyt ever. A child doesn't need some outlandish uber-fake African name so the world knows they are black. I'll tell you what I tell folks when this discussion comes up(yeah this is one that comes up in person sometimes). You are naming a human being not some cute puppy that is gonna run around the house. Half these so called 'black names' don't have a meaning and is just parents dikk riding a wave because other parents are doing it. Now if the name has some kind of meaning directly related to the motherland I applaud that. But naming the child something outlandish just because comes across as trying to gain attention vicariously through the child. The world will know the child is black whether you name them Earl or Ty'Davious. Neither name will shield them nor give them an edge in this world. So best to keep it simple. Unpopular opinion I know.

This discussion is actually high key right up there with 'talking black' vs 'talking white'.
