Why are landlords given free rein to cripple the economy by pricing workers out of important major cities ?

I have family members who went from "vote blue no matter who" liberals to boot strap moderates (read: right wing conservatives who are too scared to vote for Trump) just because they managed to obtain ONE rental property.

It's not a matter of market value and economics, there's definitely a political/social ideology that comes into play when it comes to being a landlord.
:jbhmm: that not too far off with how a lot coli posters be acting depending on what the thread is about :mjpls:

The funniest thing is coli posters acting like cacs, thinking people who are critical of landlords are broke or jobless.

:mjlol:

But more to the topic. I knew black people in Brooklyn who had million dollar properties who treated the properties and tenants like shyt. People who are doing severe slumlord shyt with Air BnB. Who have been reported over and over again for safety violations.

It's not a case of feeding a family. That's bullshyt. They're just trying to squeeze as much profit as they can out of vulnerable populations. They know they have the pick of the litter. Selfish shytty mentality that humans have and can't wait to be part of the class that has the power do they can exert it on others.

People are living short lives and trying to enjoy it as much as possible. And if that’s making 200k vs making 70k in a year, they gonna do that

If that’s better for them and their family, who exactly is the greater good they need to focus on? Is it better to have money for your kids to go to college or ensure some random worker can pay $1200 a month
This refusal to see the world beyond your own self-interest is what's gonna fukk EVERYBODY over down the road.

Bullshyt and you know it... But ok lets pretend that's true... What's the plan?

You got a house you bought, your parents have a house, your wife's parents have a house... One day those parents will die and leave you houses and you and your wife will have 3........

Should you be FORCED to sell at low market value? Have to give them away? Can you have a summer home? A beach house? An apt in the city? Who determines the market value? Is this still capitalism?

Sounds like jealousy.. There is no other item we buy where we feel like the government should force people to set prices where they seem fit and it ain't about to start with fukking houses..

If the house already paid off, only charge 10% or less of a persons monthly income on housing, like it was prior to the late 90s.

If anything, you have a crab in a barrel mentality where you overcharge for a basic place to live and make the tenants unable to save money to have a down payment for a house

The average landlord is just a regular person with 1 or 2 rental properties. Trying go paint them as these evil money hungry capitalist doesn't make any sense. There's a huge difference between them and the Landlord Landlords that are actually giant investment firms/ hedge funds with hundreds of millions/ billions that they can use to skew the housing market.
Exactly. They want us to attack the little guy when it’s Blackrock, etc buying up thousands of properties and screwing over tenants.

Landlords are not the little guy lol :mjlol: y’all’s business model relies on the exploitation of the actual “little guy”, the tenants who don’t have agency or ability to move.

Unlike other small business owners, landlords do not provide any particular benefit to a community. Clutching pearls lmao

Landlords are the definition of petit bourgeoisie
