Black ppl in the america’s experiences were and are largely shaped by slavery.

Africa’s recent history is shaped by colonialism.

Slavery has existed all throughout history. That doesn’t make it comparable to chattel slavery.

There were slaves in Africa you can research it. They worked and killed people in the Congo and cut off their limbs. King Leopold was on a full Hitler Wave before Hitler.

that's one guy compared to a system that lasted for centuries, hence why the author of the article compared it to the holocaust. like i said in another thread, its sickening when ppl try to minimize the unique nature of chattel slavery for one reason or another.

africans don't define their whole identity thru history with chattel slavery and then conjecture anytime before that.

getting your limbs cut off isn't comparable to getting your history and language cut off.

Colonialism was also terrible in many forms, but because America was not involved as a colonial power like Europe it is not discussed in the US so people think shyt was sweet for colonies and only they had it bad. Losing your home to a colonialist who basically enslaved you is equally as jarring and mind numbing.

Difficult to tell really..
