Yes frustrated is the right word.

These are not crimes of need.

ANYONE that brings up old crime stats is being disingenuous. Living standards and poverty hit people way worse in those eras. Those were crimes of NEED. Today a lot of crime is crime of OPPORTUNITY.

The difference.

Imagine the average broke family back in the 80s and 90s having a device like a PS5 or a smartphone in their crib? :heh:

Even super broke people have cell phones now. Plus those phones have access to information like food pantries and social services that weren't available back then. Nowadays, a lot of kids do crime for attention and they willingly post it on social media for clout.

There's more to this than the regular basic answers nationwide.....just had a convo with a friends young family member through marriage....3 felonies before the age of 21, all robberies....asked him directly why? fukk is wrong with you?

His answer: no one's hiring. Damn near slapped this kid in the back of his head. Everyone is hiring here. Everybody. And this kid did not grow up poor, he just wanted to act bad and knew he wouldn't suffer any serious consequences due to his age.

Lack of consequences is a huge reason. These kids know if they shoot to kill they might serve 4 years in juvie. Might. Felony robbery equals probation.Once they get out automatic superstar status amongst their peers, just like pop smoke killer.

in NY, there are even trying to make ex-cons get good paying jobs over $22 an hour due to worker shortages.

This ain't the early 00s when good paying jobs were hard to come by.

:skip: @OfTheCross @Matt504 you either didn’t see this thread (doubtful) or you’ve shown great restraint not sharing your usual thesis about the effects of “anti-black” hip hop. :troll:

80s/90s babies are some of the worst parents ever :manny:
Most of us came of age during the advent of the internet and the rise of social media. Probably had an effect on parenting, maturation, and hive mentalities

70s babies, too, are ill-equipped parents that just hold on to youthful things in their middle aged years, like being super gangsta and still think that they can be in the club multiple times a week.

It's people who actually think crime is worse now than it was in the 80s or 90s :dahell:

There was a time period where your life was in danger for being a black kid getting good grades in school. Cats gotten jumped for minding their own business and not joining gangs or doing fukkery. Cats gotten blacklisted from having a social life for not being fresh to death in high school. Some even gotten their houses broken into and robbed for standing up to themselves. The Crack Era exposed the ugliest side of crime.

You can be a regular bbreh that smokes weed, play GTA5, and hang out with friends and watch Anime without a fear in the world today. Back then, you had to have the natural :birdman: expression, or else everyone thought you were "soft" and the "soft" label was basically the kiss of death.

because they live in an increasingly decadent world in which the concepts of empathy and community have been wiped away, replaced by a nihilistic worship and pursuit of material possessions by any means necessary.

this is called end stage capitalism.

Yep

Cats believe that you gotta be an IG cloutdemon to get any kind of positive attention from broads, or even basic friendships from your peers. A lot of teens today don't have actual FRIENDS.

Because they not being raised by their teenage minded 30,40,50 year old parents

U see these old hoes online looking for a man, posting thrust pics, claiming to be boss bytches, meanwhile lil Dre and Tawana are in the streets doing bullshyt…

Like I been saying and coli nikkas don’t want to hear it many generation x and millennial parents should never had kids because they still fukking kids themselves

Gen X done fukked everything up due to their trauma of the Crack Era. They wanted to be fly, selfish, and active and refuse to age gracefully in their 40s and 50s

Plenty of good answers but also, video games aren't as good as they used to be, nor as plentiful.

Teenagers have always been wild but I think modern life delays maturity. For centuries human had to grow up fast, the responsibilities of what we would call adulthood today would begin not too long after the onset of puberty. Being forced to grow up and take on responsibility at a very young age probably neutralized some of the natural impulsiveness that comes with the teenage years. Young people are idle and purposeless for way too long these days. I also think we are over stimulated and struggling to deal with the abundance of options in every area of life.

Underrated point! By the time I was 11 and a half, I was basically considered grown and had to do numerous responsibilities around and outside the household. My parents basically said that law enforcement will not be forgiving for any fukk ups or mishandling behaviors with me or any of my peers. Basically, I had to grow up or the environment at that time (the 90s) would chin-check me tenfold as in there was no easy way out.

Funny thing is, it was Mad Max status back in the day. :lolbron:

Everybody had lead poisoning from the car fumes, total bullshyt went unchecked because there was no internet, there were no cameras, you could get away with just about anything unless you were unlucky and the cops were right there.

You zoomers will NEVER know. That world is GONE. :aicmon:

Criminals had their Golden era before 9/11. That was why the Mafia was so huge back then, because the lack of evidence and footage.

Ja Morant is a literal 9 figure millionaire, and even he decided to emulate gangsters rappers. So where does the leave the black boys that have limited options for upward financial movement?

I mean for goodness sakes! Lil Durk performed songs where he verbally dances on the corpses of dead black men at HOWARD!

Isn’t that our Grand Standard for where we send future upstanding black men and women? Where can a black man go and not be taunted with an image of self deprecation?

It’s beyond ridiculous that this is the first time ever that black people have started to not only EMBRACE the system but also, BECOME the system

You need to make an entire thread on this statement alone. The mere fact that people consider Lil Durk and his COINTELPRO ignorance as a standard of "blackness" is beyond problemic in itself. That a culture on the decline and basically ripe for a quick extinction.
