The people you used as examples are confusing. How is Marc not naturally funny but Kevin Hart is?

Then you talk about telling jokes, A LOT of times the 'naturally funny' guys aren't even that good at telling jokes. Like Christ Rock will tell you himself that Mike Epps is naturally funnier than he is, doesn't mean he's a better comic. shyt Kat's shay shay interview is better than the majority of his specials because as naturally funny as he is, he doesn't always package it well.
Marc dont seem like he'd come in and get ppl cracking up off of regular shyt like Kevin will

I agree with you on Katt

His first two specials were godly, he fell off after that

And Chris Rocl ain't been good since the 90s

But dudes like Schulz or Rogan ain't funny with jokes or personality

I see why ppl dont like him and I dont either

His first special was funny but he said he tries to be as non offensive as possible to be mainstream

When he told the deerbra joke I threw my hands up like OK that's enough

He is naturally funny tho

I don't know why you put Kevin Hart there
He's not funny at all
All his standups are not funny, and I never bust even one laugh at any of his movies.

The funniest guy right now to me is Bill Burr

But ya comedy is not dead but it's dead compared to how funny it used to be.

And no it has nothing to do with political correctness.
When comedy was funny it's not like they were dissing everyone back then
You have to be trying really hard to not like Kevin hart if you find no parts of any of his specials funny

Comedians have a short shelf life. Its rare for comedians to be at their peak for longer than 2 or 3 specials.
i can't name someone with 4 or 5 classics that are all on the same level.

Naturally funny should be nothing more than a trait

Naturally funny is comedic but it’s not comedy, naturally funny is gimmicky in comedic format

:yeshrug:I’m not even the biggest fan of him either. But bruh is naturally funny, he just suffered from being overexposed.

I feel like a lot of up and coming talent stunts their own growth by releasing all their jokes on social media one at a time. in short format

Comedians back in the day, (and a lot still currently) used to curate a set over multiple small shows sometimes over the course of years. Before releasing a fully realized comedy routine. album or special.

How you supposed to release a classic like Eddie Murphy Delirious. If everybody has already heard all of your jokes on youtube?

That's the reason Dave Chappelle does small venues and asks people not to record. He can do the jokes, figure out which ones work and eventually do a netflix special and the majority of the audience will be hearing them for the first time.

A youtube comedian who finally gets enough exposure for a big comedy special, is at a disadvantage cause now they have to come up with all new jokes nobody has heard, but they have no time to vet them out. as a result the standup they do ends up being very mid
Truth.

There are a ton of talented comedians on Instagram.

Go on there and you can be entertained for hours listening to 3 minute clips of dozens of comedians...usually their best work. YouTube will have much longer clips.

Once you see all that, it's difficult drop money and check em out in person when you've heard their best shyt.

That's where Aries and Gary Owen get a leg up because they tend to have a lot of success just interacting with the audience. Most of their shyt on social media will be the random audience observation instead of a long-form elaborate joke.

They've been on stage enough to know how to do the technical stuff but they are barely even comedians to me.

Theo is actually 'naturally funny', like he blurts out random funny shyt all the time but he's a shytty standup lol

I feel like you're just wondering why comics/comedians aren't nearly as cool as they used to seem which is a fair observation but some of it comes down to social media removing some of the mystery and reason to be personable.

Crafting jokes is a skill...like shooting or dribbling a basketball or throwing/catching a football. You can be the greatest natural athlete but it doesn't help you play those sports if you dont refine those skills.

Funny thing about what you said is that Chris had me crying when he went on Kevins show. Had me so hype for his next special and I barely chuckled. True enough he was on Kevins show pre slap. I do think that did something to him. He aint been the same since.

Kevin is about his money.

He gets cast in so many movies and his shows make $$$$. Chappelle has leaned in on challenging the status quo and Katt Williams mixes in fairy tales with legit "behind the scenes in Hollywood" type stories.

Kevin is playing it safe and I don't blame him. Folks say he's also put a lot of people on and supported folks when they were struggling. He doesn't need to be overly political or risqué because other people already fill that lane.
