When Iggy azalea first appeared she had accusations of cultural appropriation thrown at her and was just generally disliked by black people, but post Malone is constantly entering the billboard hot 100 with little push back from really anyone :jbhmm:

It's kind of similar to the whole n word thing in hip-hop too.

Jennifer Lopez caught hell for saying nikka but Pun, Joe, and 69 never did.

because white people buy the records. geazy, logic, mac, etc.

before 2003 white hiphop heads would not even admit to listening to eminem, which i dont think they did. it was until after the south take over then the media crowned eminem as king rapper with no backlash :mjlol: since then its been open season.

mgk goes on tours with fall out boy and etc :russ:

If they wanted people to accept white women in rap, they would find a way to do it.

Good question actually.

I think it had to do with the wave of performative “consciousness” at the time. People were screeching and wailing about cultural appropriation and her trying to be black. That era has passed largely. That’s why Post Malone, G-Eazy and MGK are successful now.

The same people who decried Iggy would buy her songs now. Calling her artsy and interesting :mjlol:

Also, if I recall correctly, didn’t she piss off record execs at Def Jam or Atlantic or wherever she was? Too many things against her :mjlol:

Post Malone makes better music than Iggy Azalea
But good question, I've wondered why both white and Hispanic women are less likely to be taken seriously than their male counterparts in rap

Black women have a hard time being taken serious alot of times

so you know nonblacks will suffer the same.

True, it's harder for black women too (at least until recently).

Also, a white male rapper can make up for not being able to rap about certain things with the usual masculine topics. But what would a white chick rap about besides sex?

You’re right. I’m exactly that person. She even blocked me on twitter for calling her out.

But today, I don’t feel that way, and she also got better. That song Kream wit tyga is what i would consider artsy.

Martin and Fresh Prince was shows about black ppl written by white writers or a lot of them. Kream is a song about a white woman written by a black man (tyga).

It’s a level of innovation layered on top of frankly, a good song

While I still don’t take her seriously, she is the blueprint for the next white “club” rapper. I think paul wall is the only white rapper who’s a serious white club rapper, but once cacs get a hold of tyga’s flow like this, many are gonna point back to Kream.
