First of all, why is it stupid? You don't need a degree, but you DO have to get certified in most stores and hospitals (which I did). Again, it required a lot more skill than when I was a carhop at a fast food restaurant. I had to actually study to take the exam to be certified. Here is the certification website: http://www.ptcb.org. You're probably stupid if you don't understand that. Also, not sure why you relisted the salary information because I already said in the previous post that I wasn't making 15/hr.

Second, I was a pharmacy technician in high school and some of college. It was an AMAZING job to have as a senior in high school and throughout some of college. I actually really loved that job. I have a masters and and am currently in a phd program. I no longer work in pharmacy so that last line (about it seeming like a horrible job) isn't an insult to me (you tried it though). :yeshrug:.
I'm getting my masters right now, in chemistry....and homie is right in my opinion. Pharmacy technician is a TERRIBLE job. What state did you work in? In Georgia, all you need to work is a background check and license. No need for certification. In fact, im pretty sure most states dont require it and if they do its a new thing. Also, the store i worked in was busy as hell. Non stop, at 8.15 an hour :merchant:. It was brutal. It doesnt take a genius to do pharm tech...in fact most people who do it are young pre pharm students....or career pharm techs who arent very bright happy to go in every day and work weekends regularly. Thats the dichotomy imo. @CrimsonTider :salute: to you bucking these insane arguments in here. They grow up their whole lives laughing at unskilled laborers but fact is they work hard (sometimes much harder) than most of the country and are basically told to survive on meager wages by these super companies. Then the government wonders why tax dollars are being spent so freely on social programs. There is absolutely no way to live comfortably on minimum wage. I am so glad my parents had the patience and financial ability (barely lol) to let me pursue higher education. I would have caught a body as a career pharm tech.

Wasn't trying to shyt on females, I have 2 friends and an exjumpoff that are all Pharm Techs.

Plus it requires more intelligence and trust factor dealing with pills, over fries and milk shakes.
False. There is a pharmacist who checks EVERYTHING before it leaves the store. CVS etc. would be insane to let high school diploma carriers hand out medicine like that. Pharm Techs are analogous to McDonalds workers. One gives you your diabetes inducing food, the other gives you the insulin to keep the diabetes in check. One isnt better than the other belee dat.

Well then we have different opinions about being a pharmacy tech because I loved it (I also know other people who like the job so you nor him can speak for everyone). I worked in Tennessee and the store I worked in and the hospitals in my city all wanted certified technicians. That is why my store paid for my certification. Most of the people I know got certified through the store then went to work a hospital pharmacy which had better hours, better pay, and you were able to do more things like compounding work.

Also, I NEVER said it took a genius to be a pharmacy tech (I would love for someone to find that quote). I compared being a car hop at Sonic and being a pharmacy tech and said that I used my brain more as a pharmacy tech than when I worked fast food (idk why that is so hard to grasp, but I am talking to coli members so I shouldn't be surprised). I compared those two because HE compared fast food working with a long list of jobs (one being a pharmacy tech) that imo require more skill or training than flipping burgers. Then I compared my experiences working at fast food and working at one of the jobs he listed.

Again, I like my job when I had it. It was perfect for me at the time (when I was in college). Sorry you hated your job.

I can already tell you didnt work for one of the major chains (please let me know if i'm wrong). Which is really what this is about. This isn't about yours or my anecdotal stories. This is a larger problem of corporations running wild and allowing free market philosophy to dictate social issues. Correct me if i'm wrong. In fact, I didn't hate my job. But I call a spade a spade. When I'm a Pharm.D my experience there will be helpful, but its a bullshyt position. Sorry. McDonalds worker = Pharmacy technician. You work a register, count, and follow instructions given by a manager just like all other minimum gigs in America.

That's your opinion and I have mine. I did work at a major chain and they paid for all of our certifications. Then people were able to go work at hospitals. If you want to put it like that then a Pharm.D at a major chain isn't shyt either because all the pharmacist does it make sure pharmacy techs filled the prescription correctly.

It really isnt and I bet if you ask your Pharm. D they will tell you the same. Real pharmacy is away from retail. Clinical, research work is the real science. Retail pharmacy is a glorified customer service gig. Thats why i'm getting a chemistry masters in drug design/organic synthesis so I can get a PharmD/PhD and actually do drug R&D. In any case you seem to be getting a bit upset. Its ok, I just was having a conversation about the topic and we disagreed. It happens.

It takes no skill to work in fast food
But they could pay more if they wanted and it would not effect price

Not upset. I just find it funny that someone tries to argue with you about your experiences.

:whoa: we are doing the same thing. Telling experiences. I respectfully gave my version, you gave yours. :yeshrug:

Females are the worst to have disagreements with. Ya'll take everything so personally.
