There are plenty of jobs, just not enough skilled workers for them. I'd rather more emphasis be put into training people to work skilled jobs vs paying people more money to do an unskilled job.

Ok, by this logic...Why don't we pay the paperboy more money? They need a liveable wage too.
You know why we don't, it's a low-skilled job in an industry that is getting phased out. By no means am I saying fast food is getting phased out; but the work is easy to do and easy to replace; you don't compensate for that.
Sure McD's can afford a modest increase in wages, but by no means should they make it that much...for multiple reasons.
- Cost of living will increase eventually to match the artificially boosted compensation there employees are making.
- "Brain-drain" from other jobs. There are college grads not making $15 an hour...
