There are plenty of jobs, just not enough skilled workers for them. I'd rather more emphasis be put into training people to work skilled jobs vs paying people more money to do an unskilled job.

Most sensible post in here.

Ok, by this logic...Why don't we pay the paperboy more money? They need a liveable wage too.

You know why we don't, it's a low-skilled job in an industry that is getting phased out. By no means am I saying fast food is getting phased out; but the work is easy to do and easy to replace; you don't compensate for that.

Sure McD's can afford a modest increase in wages, but by no means should they make it that much...for multiple reasons.
  • Cost of living will increase eventually to match the artificially boosted compensation there employees are making.
  • "Brain-drain" from other jobs. There are college grads not making $15 an hour...
The real problem is not being addressed, and that is a lack of skilled people to fill the jobs we have. You should not be 29 working at this job. I don't eat at McD's but I would support them if them if rather than paying a ridiculous wage, offer better tuition support for higher learning or grants for entrepreneurial pursuits.

But is this in bold also not a problem in itself? Many corporations are taking advantage of the dire situation the economy is in and the lack of jobs and requiring an insane amount of experience or a college degree for work that could just be done with adequate on the job training. This saves them a ton of money. Additionally they are paying the bare bottom amount they can because they know these students, fresh out of school and mired in debt, NEED money, and are often willing to take less than what they know they deserve just to have some type of income.

Corporate greed at some point does need to be checked. That's why although I don't agree that paying McD's workers $15 an hour will change anything in the long run, I think its absolutely stupid for people to act like its not smart or in these workers' rights to demand it. At the end of the day, if every potential worker they had demanded a liveable wage they'd have to pay it. Their business cannot operate without their work, period, and I salute workers for taking a stand.

nikkas complain when fast food slaves ask for a living wage and co-sign paris hilton making 500k to say "happy new year!" at a NYE party. that's more than a fast food slave will make in a lifetime. if you are a capitalist i wish you the worst karma, as well as a slow and painful death

As much as you hate on Paris Hilton she has a skill set someone is willing to pay top dollar for...

It is a problem...there are a broad range of dynamics going on here...there's a ton people not making $15 an hour out of college because there's an oversaturation of grads skilled in something that isn't in demand.

Ultimately the whole system needs to be re-worked, but paying fast food employees $15 an hour isn't the starting point.

Live your own life
It's also the best way to have your tax dollars not being used in your or the countries best interest.

What your saying is wrong.

Keeping labor Low is best way to have employers not give damn about the product they produce which in turns hurts profits because customers seek better quality else where.

Bre
Pay low skilled people more money would fix a lot of problems.
Not everyone is going to be smart enough to do I.T. just plain and simple.
:wow:

Never had a clue minimum wage in the US is 7.50$ People really work at that peasant salary :dwillhuh:

I would off myself if I had to flip burger for under $10/h wow
It is the real world that we live in , breh. Not every adult is making over 10/hour at their jobs.

I'm for wage increases, but the market always evens out. The true issue is the big biz and multi-nationals being able to dictate and control entire economies and put a strangle hold on the poor. When the Gov is controlled by the big biz lobby its their interests that will get passed into law, and thus if you keep the working wages low, majority of those wages go into goods. You give people more money and don't adjust the price of everything else people will buy what they need and begin to save. And savings turn into capital, and capital turns into self-determination and that turns into solidarity and eventually power.

The market will even out, and the increase will be null and void.

Point is, there's not enough skilled laborers for the jobs that are available and we need to stop giving these corporations so much power, both buying and hiring. If people started their own shyt there wouldn't be this massive inequality we have now. I'm not aloof to the reasons why those to things haven't occurred, but ultimately if that balance comes back it will be a helluva a lot better for everyone.
