How is fast food/retail meant for high school kids when its open all day :duck:

When Wal-Mart moves into a new small town and obliterates every small business within 4 miles.....are all those new jobs that are now supplied by Wal-Mart instead of the small businesses, meant for "high school" kids :duck:

College kids then? I graduated with my degree at 19. Lets say 14-22 after that McDonalds shouldn't be the job on top of your resume.

It doesn't matter if they open 24/7... as an adult you should know when I "better start looking elsewhere"

Give me a devils advocate answer on why you think, fast food chains are having increased older workers. Was it the recession post 2001, was it the influx of tech at jobs that now require less labor? Is it an influx of foreign immigrants that take these jobs? Is it the fact that fast food chains, continue to open more rapidly than other business models? Therefore, they take on higher staff populous compared to say a tech based job opening? (Cell phone store 3 employees, or some web based store small employee ratio vs 20-30 at a Taco Bell)

What's your viewpoint

It's some of that.

But, a lot of the problem is that there use to be a plethora of jobs available when you did t need college degree to work there and made enough to support a family.

The same people working at MCD would have been a factory worker making 20 an hour with the same exact skillset

With the way Public education and healthcare is gong to college and getting skills that are in demand is not realistic for a large segment of America

Not to mention, Technoolgy absorbed a lot of jobs, more than the government ever anticipated of planned for.

Breh I just believe increasing what the pay scale is across the board for fast food will be negative, as less people may strive to work a regular job for lets say $5000 increase in pay. Why be a teacher/soldier/retail/tradesman making $35,000-40,000 when the kid at MickeyDees bringing home 30k?

Everything then shifts, costing more... its just rapid inflation.

Lemme guess. You'd want everyone to work $15/hr McDonalds jobs, while our white collar economy is taken over by immigrant engineers/analysts/scientists/etc.

Oh that's going to happen anyway. There's a glut of engineers and scientists in India/China RIGHT NOW making 25K a year because its too many of them. I expect firms to start outsourcing those white collar jobs in our lifetime. shyt would really be real then :mjpls: You too busy worrying about the little man making fries to see who the real enemy is though :manny:

People dont deserve a livable wage because their skills are replaceable. In this era of globalization, I hope you feel the same way when firms figure out how to replace you :mjpls:

You're joking right?

Those jobs are on the same level as a cook.

I have a masters and I work in the same field as my masters and bachelor degree

Teachers, soldiers etc have an upward mobility on salary that the MCD won't have.

I don't think many people will be alright with making 30,000 a year for the test of their lives

I updated the thread for you and @Rawtid

Post 89

Look at the jobs that do pay that much... Why do they deserve it?

Fastfood workers want to essentially be paid the same as school bus drivers and shipping clerks

And you idiots have a problem with it :smh:

I am not worried about them specifically. You just obviously have no idea how inflation works and how it's bad for all of us in the long run. McDonalds gets their raise. Cool. No every unskilled employee will be demanding similar pay raises.

Watch as the price of your gas, groceries, food, clothing, utilities, transportation, etc. increases while your check stays the same.

Y'all are the type of people who think the problem to solving the U.S. economy is to just to print more money. :laff:

There's no way to replace my job friend. I actually have skills that are valued, technical, and that require human opinion/consultation/reasoning/intuition/judgment. Pretty sure you don't though since you think the shyt is unfathomable.

So hardworking people who make a honest living everyday in America

Should be forced to get involved in illegal activities because the company their working for is profiting in the billions can't afford to pay them a little more

People are killing me with this "just go to school" bit, who's paying for this school? Do we not already have a generation of underemployed over leveraged college grads who can't pay their loans? Do you know how many people go to college and still end up in basic ass jobs? Do you not see that education has been in shambles for close to two decades and is not a top priority for governments. There are plenty of people who drop out of college/training programs cuz their minimum wage job doesn't cover tuition or bills. There will always be an unskilled labor force, the market and society is not set up for everyone to be gainfully employed or hold skilled jobs, but the increasing gap between pay, accelerating cost of living, shrinking job market for the unskilled, and ruthless employment practices of hourly employers drive these folks to need a pay hike
