it is far from jobs....wtf! that's the issue, jobs are located all in the same place driving up demand. a 15 mile commute out here can easily take 40 minutes, the places that are full of open land are spots where there won't be jobs, you'd be looking at 2+ hour commutes (which is already a thing just to go 40 miles), then you also end up with depressed communities like stockton, fresno, and bakersfieldGovt needs to step in and federally mandate open land that can't be developed upon for exorbant prices... Allow townships to develop. There are places in California where it's nothing but open land why not just build there???![]()

These places need to develop local transit too. Especially Livermore, Pleasanton and Fairfield.NIMBY'ism + the fact that california wasn't built for the density that's seen on the east coast cities - from us being a car-focused culture (BART is so shytty compared to other subway systems), to our housing stock - lots of SFH, apartments are small to mid size complexes, infrastructure, and culture - a lot of folks, including me - don't want to see the bay area become a urban jungle like NYC. but the wave of migration for the past 20 years is stressing everything.
the only way to solve it, IMO, other than the blanket "build more" is to start demanding that these companies locate in different parts of the bay, have xx% of telecommuting jobs, create more satellite offices to spread their workforce around, and....incentivize some of these companies to leave the region once they grow to a certain size. most the companies are still located from SF down the peninsula to San Jose/Sunnyvale. No reason companies can't HQ themselves in places like Novato, Fairfield, Concord, Brentwood, and move more into Pleasanton, Livermore, etc.
What about when you cannot move, because:
- Your job doesn't allow you to move.
- You can't afford to move.
- Your entire family and social connections are in that specific city?

only problem here in NYC is that long island isn't cheap it's kinda expensive too so you commuting to work but paying these property taxes just cause you don't want to live near the negros in the hood... White flight built long island now they are paying for it literally...
Tons of people do that. It's gotten to the point that a growing number of people cannot even afford that option. They don't choose to be homeless. They're in a fukked money situation.Somehow we can’t move to another state to better ourselves?
