I been making my way through Jay-Z discography. I like Reasonable Doubt but vol 1, 2, and 3 are hella boring to me.

A lot of Wu Tang songs sound really boring to me.

They're just bars. There's no real melody. I'm sure if I printed out lyrics I'd appreciate it, but they don't sound fun to me. Fun songs to me are like Drake - 4PM in Calabasas, Kendrick Lamar - DNA, J.Cole - Neighbours, Vince Staples - Big Fish, etc.

I like some 90's songs like Ice Cream and Atliens, but I can't listen to a full album cause it gets boring. 4:44 >>>>>>> any Jay-Z album for me. Is it really that hard to enjoy stuff before your time?
Because you grew up in an era of trash rap so that is all you know. Most kids you're age wasn't raised on older music because you're parents aren't much older than ya'll. At 39, I'm so grateful that I grew up in an era where you can even enjoy some of your parents music because most rap back then sampled it and you grew up listening to it at the house parties. So glad I'm not in your generation.

It seems like OP is looking at the music that people hype up from the past instead of what his taste is.

You're not going to like the bulk of music from any period. But there's should always be something from the past that still sounds good today.

Whodini's Five Minutes of Funk was before my time but I love that song.

You gotta realize what you like in today's music, and see who was doing something similar back in the day.
i like cole, drake, kendrick, mac miller, logic, and big sean

what would i like?

I don't think it has anything to do with the music, I think that music from the 80's and 90's just isn't as vulgar and raunchy as it is now

it probably all sounds like sesame street music to them...even though there was cursing, it just sounds too PG-13 for them

I would imagine they hear cats in older songs calling girls "shorty" or "whaddup ma" and think "just call her a bytch and say you wanna tear the p*ssy up, this shyt G-rated!" :manny:

not even being funny man, this new teenage generation is about to bring a reign of sociopathic behaviors that the world has never seen before.

I'm 19 and I don't like 90's rap that much. It's like dudes just wanted to show how dope they were on the mic and too many people sounded similar...

With that being said, I've always liked pop music more than rap music and 80's pop>everything else imo:hubie:.

I was raised around Gucci Mane and Jeezy and southern hip hop, but I've always had an ear for good music...

To me, the 90's is severely lacking in depth because the true greats are the only one's that are brought up and referred to as classics. You never hear the 'floor' of 90's rap because it was just as bad as the worst shyt is today. Dude's just don't like to bring that up...

Like in West Coast rap. Dude's would say some of the corniest, most cringe-worthy shyt, but no one noticed because it was masked by a nice beat and the artist's cadence.
:stopitslime: Are you fukking serious right now?

Because rap styles were a lot different back then.
A lot of the bars would actually sound pretty corny and cringeworthy if they came out of the mouths of some modern day rappers.
You just have a different taste in music :yeshrug:

Makes since

I'm 10 years older than you and i don't have any 80s hip-hop on my phone besides NWA and Rakim.

I think the 90s is the best hip hop has ever been though

Bars were better back then tho.

21 Savage would sound corny and cringeworthy reciting an AZ verse?
