Why Couldn't Kyrie Have Had A Brunson Type Career?

Cuz Kyrie isn’t a flopper like Brunson :hhh: shyt is disgusting to watch.

But seriously, Kyrie has had a better career so far than Brunson

Thread wasn’t about who had the better career

It was about the type of career.

Brunson is a clear alpha number 1 option who can lead a championship contender.

While Kyrie who has similar or greater tools has never shown that ability.

You say because Brunson flops but you always have to account for him every single second he’s on the floor while Kyrie has a tendency to just drift in games to the point that you forget he’s out there.

That’s perplexing as hell.

Brunson plays with players with no desire to be "him". Would the success have been the same had they kept Randle?

Kyrie in Boston played on a team that had success after people said their season was over when Hayward got hurt. All them nikkas on that team thought they were "him".

Simple math, Kyrie never lead a team anywhere as Batman, Brunson has :manny:

Brunson is a better floor general and high-level orchestrator.

Brunson can point to where the entire team has to be to attack a defense or get an open look whereas Kyrie’s assists are more attack a defense/drive and kick variations. Brunson understands the more wholistic/team game and Kyrie the more individualistic one.
Short term playmaking vs long term play making/planning. A point guard in basketball is basically the quarterback of the team on offense. He’s the main facilitator/playmaker who sets the plays for his team.

Kyrie is reactive with tunnel vision and focuses on immediate individual plays( like beating an opposing defender 1 on 1 ) while Brunson is more patient and proactive and has the vision to see the bigger picture on the court. He tries to make all his teammates involved in offensive schemes meanwhile Kyrie trying to play hero ball with volume shooting and trying to win the game by himself.

Brunson is arguably the #1 option on the knicks while Kyrie never been the man in CLE, BOS, Brooklyn, and DAL. Brunson can be the Batman on a team but not Kyrie because he’s a better playmaker, facilitator, leader, floor general than Kyrie. But Kyrie is better defensively than Brunson though.

Kyrie is like a glass cannon. He is an elite scorer from all levels of the court. But Kyrie's frame is a little slight and it gets him injured at times. Also he is not really a leader. He is more of a free thinker and while that's not a bad thing in and of itself it has held him back from winning as much as he could have. Say what you want but it took LeBron's leadership for him to win his one title.

Jalen Brunson does not have Kyrie's level of talent but he has been coached hard since he was a boy. His father's coaching experience is invaluable. Jalen is a master of the fundamentals. He has elite footwork, he makes the team around him better. He not only performs in the big moments he seeks it out. He is a proven leader and while he isn't a blazing athlete his bulky build allows him to play through contact and get buckets almost at will.

his stint with the Celtics was supposed to be his version of Brunson on the Knicks …I’ll have to revisit why it failed, but that’s the answer to the OP’s question

A mixture of Kyrie not being a Leader + Tatum / Brown / Smart / Rozier thinking the team was theirs after they stepped up when Kyrie and Hayward were out.

This why we hate ny fans. Let Brunson win the championship first lol
Has nothing to do with a championship, Brunson's 3 year run as the #1 in New York already exceeds anything Kyrie did in that role whenever he assumed it throughout his career.

Durability was a deterrent but mindset and leadership were also a major roadblock and modern day Kyrie would attest to that looking back. Brooklyn was a good peak behind the curtain, talking about we have no Head Coach we're all the Head Coach and taking random sabbaticals from the team because the air wasn't right. Asking that guy to be the undisputed #1 and lead your team is 1st round exit/Play-In/Lottery limbo.

What part of his game was preventing him from getting to that level?

Why was he doomed to secondary status?

This guy is one of the most revered players of all time yet he has never sniffed what Jalen Brunson is doing with the Knicks and it makes no sense

He can do everything Brunson can do aside from the physicality. But he was pretty physical himself in his prime.

He should have easily been a number one type player capable of leading a team to at least contending status. Not whatever the fukk kind of wacky career he ended up with.

Injury. He was Jalen Brunson on the Celtics.
