Why couldn't they do this for CM Punk two years ago?

This thread is truth. I don't know exactly what happened, but Triple H should have turned heel, he didn't. The whole Nash angle was done poorly, and ended up making little sense because Triple H didn't turn heel like he should have for whatever reason. Then the fact that Nash couldn't even have a match, and Punk losing to HHH along with HHH's belittling promos killed a ton of Punk's momentum.

This storyline should have been exactly what Punk should have gone through years ago, but HHH not turning and putting Punk over derailed it.

The other thing that hurt Punk is that when he won the title and said he was leaving, he was back in time for the next PPV. He should have stayed off TV longer and done more stuff outside of WWE to draw attention.

They couldn't do it two years ago because the pieces weren't in place like they are now. You can tell what they are doing with D-Bry is reconciliation for the clusterfukk of the momentum with CM Punk two years ago. Del Rio did cash in that night of Summer Slam but it had no real effect. It would just seem like the McMahons hand picking the current top heel and putting him out there when no one cares. Plus Punk didn't guarantee anything with staying with the company so its hard to really work him into a long term story.

Now with D-Bry we watched him subliminally feud with Orton over the weak link storyline......they also probably have some low key heat over Bryan catching the stinger against him at one point. Then you look at how Orton was begging to turn heel via social media. Cena has been fukked up for a while and knew he could only go but so long. Then you see how crowds are going crazy for D-Bry, especially how the E has shunned him repeatedly . Now you have someone who can move merchandise while John boy heals up. You basically book the Indy circuit god vs. The hand picked entertainer. Then you add in HHH and Orton's history and the rest writes itself. Plus keep in mind during the Yes movement post WM28, HHH was the one who felt a Yes! T-shirt wouldn't sell like other merchandise.

The thesis is Punk shook things up two years ago in order to pave the way for Bryan to have that opportunity. whether ya'll want to admit it or not he gave them a reason to believe in Indy guys. This year they are just realizing how much they can capitalize off them.

That's really what I'd like to know... There's a lot of talk and rumors over who is the cause for the way things have started to shift, but I wonder who is truly responsible. It's gotta be either HHH or Punk. I will say this; the program has gotten better since the Rock stopped looming over the product. The Rock winning the title from Punk did not help the business, in my opinion. Punk should have kept the title.

Punk would of never kept the title that long in the first place had the Rock match not been announced. That's the whole point. Punk wouldn't have even had a pipe bomb in him had he not whined about the "Dwayne" in Las Vegas. So that doesn't add up either.

From what I see HHH is high on trying to make the product better from a wrestling standpoint and you can see that from his focus on trying to rebuild tag team wrestling back up ironically through Daniel Bryan. Also he's the reason behind some key signings with Indy guys. So he's behind it. As long as HHH keeps on a suit in this storyline he's cool with me. The minute he gets in the ring it will be the catalyst for it going sour. As for Rock he's a ratings draw whose opinion is heavily valued by Vince....that's about it.

Bryan said that but he didn't say it every week like Punk did. He brought it up when he got shafted..not for comedy or playing around. There wasn't no smirk on his face..he was serious as fukk. Like I said last night, Cena came out smiling after losing the belt and happy as a motherfukker that fans were booing him while Bryan was dejected and looked sick to his stomach. Two DIFFERENT type of performers...Punk is highly trained in the Bryan mold but he does out of ward shyt like last night with the fat guy and weird shyt like that distracted from his entire angle.

Punk wasn't pissed off that his hard work was being ignored..he was basically crying that about Miz being champion, about the WM 28 main event, and just going off on tangents in a way that fans got behind at the time. In the end, the only change he cared about was his paycheck getting higher and him going over the roster during that long reign. That was the dead end reality of it.

So it's not the same storyline...Bryan was actually fired and came back by popular demand. His points have just as much realism as anything you bought into back in 2011. Especially with hardcore fans ALWAYS knowing that McMahon loves big guys and guys that look like Orton and Cena to fit his title molds of pushed stars.

How could Bryan say it every week? He was screwed by Triple H and Randy on Sunday. Two days ago. It was the first time he was face-to-face with a McMahon after that event, less than 24 hours later. I didn't mention John Cena; you did. Cena has nothing to do with my point here. The only thing I made mention of was Punk's promo and how similar it is to Bryan's storyline. The whole point of Punk's promo WAS that his hard work was being ignored. If you can't see that, I don't know what to say to you. His point was that his hard work was being ignored while he was being bypassed by others he saw as less talented or less deserving. In Punk's case, it was one guy who knew that he didn't fit into the mould of what the corporate suits see as a champion and he was railing against that. In Bryan's case, the corporate suits (HHH, Vince and Stephanie) have made it clear that Bryan is not what they want in a champion, so they turned to Randy instead. One guy (Punk) knew that he was undervalued and had had enough of it. Another guy (Bryan) is having his value diminished because he's not the "face" the company needs. Every point you made to validate Bryan (being shafted, knowing that the McMahons love big guys that look like Cena or Orton) applies just as much to Punk.. As for saying I bought into things in 2011 (I didn't), it's obvious you've bought into this storyline with Bryan just as much. That's because of how much it's based in reality. Just like Punk's storyline in 2011. Just like all the best storylines.

Punk would not have been able to pull it off.

He would have made some stupid faces, called someone out in the audience and tried to hijack the segment yelling about being best in the world as loud as he can while garnering 2.6 Ratings/the 5 lowest overruns in the 20 year history history of Monday Night Wrestling (WCW or WWE).

Oh wait, that's' what happened and that's why he got nothing.

That whole sequence between Punk and Nash is still hilarious to me. Punk was sonning him and Nash just started yelling and calling him a short order cook. You could tell Nash was legit mad :pachaha:
