Why did Jim Crow-era whites want blacks to only get a technical/vocational education?

STEM degrees are gonna get over saturated. Better off being an entrepreneur.

STEM major incoming, strongly disagree. I'm a black chemistry major and that statement sounds like sour grapes to me.:mjpls:

Also you can be both a STEM major and an entrepreneur. Who do you think invented the blood glucose meter for diabetes patients? He was an analytical chemist and made a fortune off of something so relatively simple looking back. Chemistry is only a small fraction of what STEM includes. Robert Jarvik is a medical doctor, scientist and entrepreneur and he invented the artificial Jarvik heart and made a boatload of cash.

STEM is a wide range of jobs from computer coding, to medicine, to applied sciences like physics, chemistry, along with fields like engineering, nursing, accounting, etc. The field is wide open and the stronger your math skills, the more options that will be open for you. They all range in difficulty from lighter subjects to upper echelon insanity level fields like chemical kinetics, nuclear physics, electrophysiology, quantum computing, internal medicine, nano-processor design, etc.
:lawd::ohlawd::whoo:

These fields are always going to be in demand because there is a lack of quality applicants to fill the positions. Also Americans tend to have an adverse relationship to math and science so if you love both and you're willing to work at it, there are a ton of doors open for you. If your're really good at what you do, people will pay big bucks to keep you.

I would make it accessible to the people in general, and I would make schools dedicated to programs like these, sorta like nursing and nursing techs.

Plus make better teachers off of that field beasue there are far too many science/ math teachers that have poor teaching abilities, lack of effective/ straightforward communication, and lack being humble.

w men don't want blk men to compete w/ them on an institutional level....they're insecure enough about us physically and they know deep down what we can do mentally when give a chance....u notice that one black guy that do slip through the cracks usually becomes the best @ what he does....imagine if multiple blacks become this way

A liberal arts education is the foundation of most disciplines

Yeah, I was just pointing out the irony in the coli always having threads about how English lit. is useless and everyone should be in STEM and then this thread bemoaning people being pushed towards technical degrees during Jim Crow. Kind of :mindblown:

more empty ass statements from you.

it IS accessible.

People just don't do it cause it seems too hard for them.

Hell, women can get damn near free educations for even sitting in the classes.

Break it down so that everyone has a shot, not just the ones that think that only a few should learn it and have a decent lifestyle. More hands on, and less strict book learning.

???????????????????????

what the fukk are you talking about?

Education is damn near accessible to anyone who goes to college!!!

, not just the ones that think that only a few should learn it and have a decent lifestyle.
That would be why STEM majors are CONSISTENTLY the smallest departments in schools, right? People make that CHOICE.

More hands on, and less strict book learning

Sorry you don't like math or chemistry :snoop:

You know...ACTUAL fukking basics.

You don't even know what you mean by "hands on"...just more bullshyt buzzwords from you.

If you overcharge people for school, best believe that they would do anything not to fail. Paying 10k and above for one semester for school and the chances of you passing are slim, no one is willing to take a risk. Kind of how like movies these days are $$$ in budget development and studios stay on the safe side, because a flop, or on the case of school, failing a class means that 10k would go down the drain, more people would play it safe.

Best believe that if schools were cheaper, more people would take them, but these institutions are ran by old greedy fukks that hate giving people a fair chance. I say we need brand new teachers that can teach math and chemistry better than these old professors that think the way of old.

False.

Schools are more expensive because of widely available loans.

except young teachers don't possess the knowledge to actually...SHARE with people. you don't just wake up knowing everything.

Younger teachers that still remember the rigors of learning the subject that they are teaching understand the learning pain better than some old ass dusty professor that done so for 50 years and have no kind of understanding of that kind of pain anymore. Plus all the young teachers I had broke down information easier and simpler than any old ass teacher.

i love how you, someone who doesn't have a STEM degree or probably hasn't taken ANY STEM classes, thinks you know more about a STEM education than...than anyone else.

Its like you're qualified to be a senator or something :pachaha:

I agree about the whole teacher situation.

I found that in my science classes, good teachers were much harder to come by than other fields. There were a lot of hit or miss instructors and they really didn't worry about losing their job because instructors were hard to come by. Math was a bit better but was hit or miss too at times. Some of them were very smart but had very poor teaching/communication skills.
