myspace used to be the premier social networking site..how did they fall off so hard? how did they let facebook set up shop and take over the social networking game?

myspace didn't fail, it was a huge success, but just like any great company, another one is waiting in the wings to fill in the blanks. facebook was on stealth mode watching and struck at the right time. i think google+ is next tho.

It sounded crap, looked crap and in the end was crap. So it didn't take that much to displace it which is why even more crap like Facebook managed to. Crap would lag your comp. Facebook is at least accessible to other people and not just teenage girls with "issues" and "problems". Facebook did everything that Myspace should have done in the first place.

facebook also had a more targeted user foundation with college students. Zuckerberg was a genius starting with the people that were destined to network socially (college kids) right at the time the social aspect of internet use came to the forefront. He started with the people that would need to use this form of networking in the future once they graduated. college students had computers, unlimited internet access, free time, and the social networks already built into their lives. he just built a social network to harvest that activity. myspace didn't have a target audience. anybody could join, so it wasn't exclusive. i remember when nikkas was trying to get fake college e-mails so they could have a facebook. facebook used to be way more powerful in the beginning. it was like a special club. i remember when i first got my CUNY email i was hype i could finally get facebook.

The real answer is the "upgrades"

Besides the loading times, every thing you nikkas are naming is on Facebook too...

If myspace would've stopped doing all those upgrades it would still be around next year :snoop:

The myth of Facebook was outstanding back in 2005,
I couldn't wait to get my .edu so I can sign up, it was truly for the elite,
But now it's for everybody, still, MySpace in its prime>>>>>

Everybody and their mama started making pages :manny:
MySpace circa 2005-2007 was the GOAT.

well facebook is the same now except now grandmas are making pages too..how are they still on top?

its weird, its like one year myspace was the hottest thing out, and the next year it was corny and out of date. i've never seen such a swift turnaround on a website like that before :dwillhuh:

MySpace didn't have a lasting ecosystem like Facebook does. Plus there were too many social networks at the time competing with the exact same shyt but didnt expand much further than the basics. That's where Facebook stood out from.
