Man internet and time have been generous to Nelly. I liked dude when he first came out and I was in the minority. The internet hated Nelly 2000-until he fell off, and is now propping him up. Crazy

KRS played himself in that battle.

first he went at Nelly for a song (#1) that most likely wasn't about him. I don't think anyone was thinking about KRS when that single came out. this leads me to believe that either KRS suffers from delusions of grandeur OR he was looking for an excuse to go at a mainstream rapper.

then he came out with the diss on that Tonedeff track which was actually good and clearly going at Nelly. Nelly came back to diss him (and it was unexpectedly decent for a diss track, people weren't expecting Nelly to have it in him to battle) and KRS hid his hand trying to pretend the verse wasn't about Nelly . He most likely did that to seem like he was the one that was provoked.

THEN he came out with the other diss which while decent, wasn't as potent as the first diss. also keep in mind that like others said, this is in the era when KRS was claiming he had single lines for every artist that would instantly end their career .


THEN KRS tried to start a boycott of Nelly to show him he was done. Now while 9 time out of 10, sales don't matter in a battle, this is where KRS played himself the most. by saying that, he's the one who made it about sales. Nelly went on to sell multi-platinum.

So yes, i can say Nelly won the battle (by default).

All I remember is nellys disses. KRS just came across as a bitter hater whos time had passed. Nelly won. But time is undefeated and nelly got his dose of as well. Both can tour off the nostalgia of their old songs. Thats about it.
