Black alternative wasn't the wave yet. Plus she's wack as fukk.

the real question is why people still sleep on this album

I came in here to say the same reason they slept on this album.

This is one of my GOAT albums right here.

And nah, Nas wasn't on the album version of Ice King.

the early highschool recipe was
pick shorty up spark the spliff play some shyt she never heard before

kelis like the archetypical alt. black girl loves a eclectic range of music movies art always flipping through fashion mags and shopping for off the wall wardrobe pieces

she was my phone background for a minute back then too

Kelis was definitely ahead of the curve, but her albums were never any good. Add that to her not being a great singer (though she's imaginative and brash which goes a long way with the right beat).

the question is: how many 'right' beats did she get? Not a ton.

Her first 2 albums are on point

Just smoked some loud and got this blaring out my speakers , shyt got me feeling like I'm ascending to heaven :wow:

great track and loved this album, shyt takes me back to a really specific point, had this on tape lol. i think her wild image did affect her popularity as was just mentioned. I think a lot of people thought she was an older artist due to that 'i hate you...' video

in saying all this though, shes not a great singer, but that first album and the neptunes beats had such a new style to it..she fitted it well. defninitely before its time
