to me, so far, its superior to any of the souls games i've played and has more depth to its mechanics :wow: with this game capcom laid the groundwork for something really special. if they can go back and tweak/imporve some things in a sequel it can be one of the GOAT rpg's :whoo:

why didn't this game ever take off? :mindblown: meanwhile an inferior product like dark souls get huge acclaim and love

dark souls is so fukkin overrated and the type of annoying fukkboy fans it breeds are among the worst in gaming :pacspit:

Agreed, I think souls series had a niche audience but it became one of the early console sole games that people loved to watch on stream and kind of took off from there.

Dragon dogma was amazing but, it was a capcom game and it didn't move units like they wanted.

:umad:

The Souls fanbase on most gaming sites is lowkey trash though. Way too many tryhard nerds who think playing these games are going to get them some actual cred outside of their little geek circle.

I agree with your statement about the pretentiousness of Souls game fanboys. The gameplay requires little more pattern recognition yet these fanboys swear it has fighting game level depth. They pretend to be experts yet most of them are just following the instructions provided on crowd sourced wikis. I also hate the way that none of the lore in any of the games is properly explained yet fanboys pretend like From has created something more than a git gud D&D hack and slash. :pacspit:

I completely whiffed on Dragon's Dogma. I didn't even hear about it until a year after it was out. I was trying to figure out how I missed it. Still don't know. Know that the PC version has dropped and they have had time to tweak it and do all sorts of stuff to it, I'm looking forward to diving into it soon.

As a HUGE souls fan and playing through DD again I have to agree with OP.

DD is just so much fun, the mechanics are more varied, and the pawn system is one of the coolest new mechanics in a recent RPG.

The agility of your character makes the game such a joy to play compared to other RPGs. In other RPGs you kinda feel disconnected from the world cause your character can't even lift his leg to step over knee high rocks/ledges. In DD you have full mobility.

And you can climb the back of a huge dragon and stab him in the neck :banderas:

It didn't nail its world, atmosphere and aesthetic nearly as well as Dark Souls did. I'm playing through it right now and while the gameplay is great, the character models, dialogue and cutscenes are trash. The world itself is bland and has nowhere near as much character as Dark Souls. Also the game was a technical mess. 25fps and black bars.

The PC version is doing really well though and I think Dragon's Dogma 2 could be where the series takes off and becomes a big success.

To add onto this, while DD is much more fun than Dark Souls, its not nearly as satisfying to play through. The bosses, while epic and cool in DD, dont have the presentation of a boss in dark souls. Progressing in DD isnt an accomplishment like it is in Dark Souls. The story is nonexistant, while Dark Souls is layered and earned. Every bit of Dark Souls is vastly more satisfying once you break through the wall. There is no wall in DD other than arbitrary spots that vastly outlevel you. You need to be a certain level, while in dark souls you need to acquire more skill. DD doesnt have the niche appeal of DS, nor the online component that adds even more replay value to the game.

But that's not true though. In DD if you set you pawns up right and "git good" you can punch well above your level just like dark souls.

And killing that first dragon was just as satisfying as anything in darks souls imo.

These aren't comparable games for one. Dragon dogma is more equivalent to games like Skyrim. I liked the game but already mentioned it was a broken game to some extent and in had quite a few boring quests.

I've no idea why the two are being compared, the battle systems are completely different while one is open world and the other linear. Op sounds emotional as fukk as well for some reason.

Anyway from what I've played the Souls games worlds are far more interesting, and the game itself is more challenging, has more unique enemies, is more satisfying and has a better atmosphere.
