The difference is tate showed range by playing o-dog to the point that people thought he was really like that, and turner seemed like he was only capable of playing one role.

I read the article, he doesn't want to pay dues. He doesn't even want to audition, even Jamie Foxx can't get movies like that.

Allan Hughes offered a role as an extra on Gang Related, and he felt insulted. He actually wanted a bigger role or else.

Almost two decades after they first worked together, Turner nearly reunited with Allen Hughes this year for the pilot for Gang Related, a drama series Hughes is executive producing for Fox. Then Turner learned he was cast as a gangster, which perhaps should not have come as a surprise — the show is called Gang Related, after all. Then he discovered that the part was closer to extra work than a speaking role. He called Hughes, who sold Turner on the possibility of making him a recurring character if the show was picked up. Turner agreed. Then, after deliberating, he changed his mind and decided to pass.

"I'm hurt," Hughes later told him. "I really needed you."

Turner says he texted him back, "I don't know who the fukk you think I am. But I'm not that dude. I'm not a Crip. I'm not a gangbanger. I'm not going to come up there for $300 as an extra. It's disrespectful. Our relationship is not repairable."

Wow.

He really wanted it to come easy, I hope he grinds this time around.

Wow.

Him not auditioning or putting in dues is dumb on his part. The part about being offered the part of an extra is understandable though. I'd probably be insulted too.

The answers seem to be right there in the Grantland article. Dude got gassed up off Menace and thought the roles would come to him and he didnt grind and try to do other things (rapping). I suppose at the time it felt like we were heading into this renaissance of black cinema with the hood flicks but sadly you've seen where its gone in and even a lot of the actors who got work after those initial hood flicks are getting D movie roles or back to TV as supporting characters in pilots...and those were the ones who grinded.

Sad thing is kind of become the Johnny Drama to Jaimie Foxx's Vincent Chase judging by the Grantland story. Dude 41 thinking he'll still blow.

The better question is still Larenz Tate. On top of the shyt already mentioned there was also his role on South Central. Dude was a good ass actor and had all kinds of females on his tip.

I think the reason Larenz Tate has never truly blown up huge is a combination of his stature, his boyish looks, and he probably has never taken it up the ass from some hollywood exec. Real talk. Yeah Tom Cruise and Stallone are short fukks but they are white and they can't still pass for teens or 20 somethings in the face. Larenz can. And in black hollywood where the pool is already small as hell, that even lessens the roles you can play. Love Jones was good, but to me? Nia Long and him didnt look like a good match. She don't look like she would fukk with him in real life. Lets take Red Tails for an example. He's old enough to have played Cuba Gooding's or Terrence Howards role. But the mufukka look too young. He is on House of Lies now. Maybe he'll get a bigger role next season.
Now Tyrin Turner? Dude has no range and is always the same guy. And like somebody already said, this same guy will die a horrible death. This nikka coughs up blood with the best of em. I think that was him dying in Dead Presidents when they 1st cut to Anthony in Nam and his unit is under attack. The shivering, eye rolling, blood coughing is straight from the Tyrin Turner School of Performing Violent Deaths. But as Sy in Panther, you guessed it, Ezell from Friday hit em up and had that nikka choking on his own guts again. Also that Cali accent aint doing him any favors. Its too thick and again, limits what he can do. Rico from Nebraska in Belly sounded just like Caine from South Central in Menace. Sticky Fingaz has a straight to DVD hip hop opera that I kinda liked that Turner is in playing a cop. All the lines are delivered in rhyme form. I know some a yall seen it. Bokeem Woodbine (who is also in the hip hop opera) is a better actor than Tyrin Turner and thats saying something. About Tyrin.
