Back in the 60's and 70's in the height of the black power movement a lot of babies were given african/muslim names to try and reconnect with there African roots. Names like Jamal, Kareem, Hakeem, Rahim, Malik, Rashid/Rashida, Aaliyah, Hassan were very popular. Malcolm X and the nation of islam influenced a lot of it but even non Muslim African Americans were giving there kids these names and if you go to a place like Chicago you will still see a bunch of kids with these names. If you watch some of the late 80''s and early 90's black films you will see a bunch of these names used as the 60's and 70s babies who were given these names grew up and influenced some of these hollywood films about the black community. In the Movie Juice the light skinned brotha's name was Rahim, and in Menace to Society the skinny's brothas name was Sharif Butler.

whoever named ya pops mighta been on some islam shyt, or liked what the name "jamal" means :manny: to an extent its better than having a generic CAC name
same thing i'd say with Nation of Islam influence. Raheem is a sick name. My ex girlfriend was the one who got me liking it :heh:

I have a cac name...its no difference really :manny:

I know quite a few actually, I went to school with two one is Lebanese/Sierra Leone origin and the other Palestinian

Jamal is a great name, meaning beauty in Arabic. Jamila is the feminine version

Arabic is a very deep and rich language. Every word has a root that has a meaning.

But somehow Jamal is a common Arab name despite the fact I and others' have never met any Arabs with the name.

I'm sick of moms like this sucking up my tax dollars on bullshyt like this while she keeps making babies. This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. They need to start forcing people like this to get their tubes tied.

These women are the ones produce black babies. I have no issue with it. I want less c00ns though.

Its because many slaves brought over from West Africa were originally Muslim before they were trained like animals to forget their language, culture, religion, identity, etc...African Americans using Arabic/Muslim names was a way to connect with ones past history. Staying away from Slave names, etc...and some were guided to Islam and chose names with Islamic relevance, the best names :manny:

Gang violence...
these names are common because there was a tug-o-war between pale cacs and tan cacs for the mind and soul of black people. that's about it.
