Why do all these boring ass non box office monster movies always win all the prestigious awards

Yeah, I had a friend argue me down about how great it was and that I just didn't "get it". I was like no, got it, I understood it, explained what the movie was about, and the themes, it just wasn't the masterpiece in my eyes that everyone made it out to be. I thought it was ok and it was a version of a movie I've seen several times, like The One, the Infinity Saga, Spiderman and Dr. Strange, Looper, and so on. If I'd never seen those then it might have hit harder.

None of these movies are seeing EEAAO though to be fair

What the hell is Oscar bait

Because they have 3 dimensional storylines.
1. It's the main plot
2. The alternate perspective
3. And the symbolic themes used to tell the story without sound.

Usually that 3rd one is like speaking another language to the non-profane. If you know how to watch films like this you'll see why they score so highly by critics.

If OP is referring to EEAAO. It's far from a prestigious Oscar bait movie.
They released the movie in spring of last year, It's a sci-fi movie those type of films don't do well at awards, and the movie grossed over a 100 million when people were still skeptical about going to movies during the pandemic

This movie isn’t boring but it’s not good either and it’s being propped up by a lot of fake deepness

I'm not talking about the quality of the movie.
I'm just saying it's not your typical Oscar Bait movie.
A few years ago a movie like EEAAO wouldn't even been nominated for Oscars let alone win.
That shows how much things have progressed in the film industry

Im agreeing with you but LaLa land was not the typical Oscar movie either (didn’t win tho)

What I’m saying is that EEAAO is not typical nor is it boring.

It shouldn’t have won either 2022 was a weak year for movies

I feel like daughters and mothers identify more with Everything Everywhere All at Once and that’s ok. I thought it was good but clearly was meant to touch the emotions of mother/daughter relationships.

Sounds like I dodged a bullet,I was expecting a high quality kung fu movie + the matrix

Wasnt about to pay 20$ to stream it though. Not sure why these streaming services think they can charge more than a movie theatre. Im trying to do you a favor and not watch the bootleg version,but if you force my hand

LaLa land was a big budget musical with a mostly white cast
Moonlight was a small budget independent film with a black cast.

That year LaLa land had most nominations and was predicted to win best pic
