Oscar's has some intersectional check boxes they want to hit. "I" think because they are trying to foster their idea of good societal change through cinema. This been apparent since the 80's. That's their prerogative, it's their awards.

What people fail to understand is, Oscar's is not a popularity contest. Other award shows tend to be popularity contests *cough* Grammy's *cough*.

If your nomination doesn't hit the check boxes, then they hand out lifetime achievements to folks that they did snub.

I guarantee you, if you write a film that has a gay, broke, handicap, immigrant, throw some independent film color grading on it, and you manage to get theatrical distribution you will get nominated. If you can manage to throw a learning disability in there, that's the cherry on top.

Some of the movies are actually very good, but it's very predictable what they like to nominate and award.
