the answer is probably because america is large enough, isolated enough, and powerful enough for its citizens to not have to be concerned about other countries. most other people have to know what's going on elsewhere, many countries are so small that traveling among them is like us traveling from california to texas.

also, our cultural exchange is overwhelmingly one sided. outside of BBC america, we dont really consume european media directly. if we get a show from europe, it will most likely get adapted into an american version, so many americans may not see the diversity of a city like london

i can believe americans didnt think there were many blacks there, but as far as people actually thinking there are no blacks there, i kinda wonder if those people were just trying to insult you, because every one i know knows there are black people all over europe

im not sure i understand what you are getting at. my point is that the USA is so large that we can travel a few thousand miles and still be in the same country. lots of other countries are much smaller so similar trips bring them in contact with very different kinds of people

they probably also need to leave often to find seasonal work and i wonder if there are huge stretches of land where they really dont live in much density, such as the siberian region.

my point is basically there are probably more practical reasons why most europeans have to get out more, and why as of right now, most americans do not.

besides actively studying it...theres absolutely ZERO exposure of english black people to americans. rarely ever see them in movies, or tv shows, etc. everything we get over here from England is white. blame your own media for your under-representation. i watch BBC all the time i never see nikkas.
