Why do churches still collect tithes if it's an Old Testament thing?

Most pastors I've known are working class. My pops in law is 70 and worked full time outside of the church until his 50's and worked part time in a store he co-owned until about 3-4 years ago. When the church hit financial troubles (due to lack of tithes) he refused a paycheck for about a year and lived off their savings. Despite the narrative most pastors ain't living big. Plus the ones I know typically work way more than 40 hours a week at the church so it makes perfect sense that they receive a salary from the people they're serving. Beyond that tithes go to the upkeep and maintenance of the church itself whether its the building and a mortgage/rent, cleaning or repairs or other ministries the church is involved in.

Tithes are just one of the few ways churches make income. They are still a business. If you don't want to pay tithes, you can do church online or pray by yourself.

Thank you for this!!
Mega churches, bring in mega money LOL! that's why their pastors are flamboyant. You typically don't see the pastors at smaller churches balling like that...they are average and regular as hell. Stop fukking with mega churches.

Why do some church's have a woman pastor

This is even worse

Ezekiel 25:17

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

This is in the Old Testament correct?

:what: Adults are making the choice to financially support something they feel is worth it and beneficial to them. So in the minds of the people that are doing the tithing, no they wouldn't be better without the church or the church building. Many are quasi community centers as well so they bring a ton of value to those who are involved.

Most churches aren't operating as businesses trying to make profit.
