Hip hop aint dead its just watered down. Every region has had its run to some degree but the South aint even on top right now. In fact no region is on top. You get rappers from everywhere doing things. You let my son tell it and Chicago is on top right now...

why would the success of 1 region affect another? the game needs more dope producers and more 'event' albums that gets people excited. no ones stopping anyone from making better music

I'd rather listen to some heavy hittin' shyt that gets me hyped (3-6, Lil Jon), some REAL gangsta shyt from authentic thugs (No Limit, BG, Juvie), tough pimp shyt (UGK, Ball & G, Trick Daddy), tight introspective stuff you can BUMP (Face, Ro, Geto Boys, Rino, Kast) or cool mafioso antics (Ross, Jeezy) than the outdated boring ass NY classics from Rakim, Wu-Tang, Nas (his 90's albums have some boring ass production for the most part) etc., even Ready To Die is so goddamn sleep-inducing (lyrics are top-notch tho)

It's that bass them Shmurda, OT Genasis joints get played. The problem isn't people aren't interested in the region of NY. They just aren't interested in Pre-Dipset style NY records. Look how hard Dipset was going. And creatively I love Joey Badass stuff but these days that's like a sub-genre.

Here this shyt goes again...

I got love for Cali, but y'all nikkas get damn near delusional when y'all start talkin' and tryin' to negate NY just to pump y'all shyt up. Cause in all reality, y'all talk about how NY was so inferior and didn't have no good beats, etc... and whole time, all them nikkas y'all pump up that came from the West grew up on NY rap. shyt, LA had an all-hip-hop radio station in the 80s... you know good and hell well they played NY rap, cause there wasn't even enough Cali stuff out there yet to only play that on the station. They came up listening to NY hip-hop just as much as they listened to Cali shyt. And all of those artists you mentioned have just as many NY influences as Cali influences. Snoop was a Slick Rick fan, Kurupt's favorite MC was Rakim, all that shyt. Knock it off.
Kurupt grew up in Philly as well...he sounds like a East coast nikka too.

The South did fukk shyt up to the point hiphop is unrecognizable..I think the argument that the East and West jumped on their bandwagon is true to some extent, but I think they just wanted to support the new movement the same way the South had always been supportive to the East and West even when they themselves were invisible.
Plus the major difference is that unlike the East and West, theres very little in socio political Southern Hiphop..everything is about stuntin' at the trap house. The Southern catalogue has some beats, but no substance.

That is the commercialized southern rap. People forget the likes of BIG KRIT and Z-Ro exist.
NYC killed hiphop when the Major Players who had the ball in their hands decided to pass it corporate entities for capital, the organic fruits of the culture were rotted.... Of course the corporate entities gave the ball to the south, the catchy beats/hooks made more MONEY....

you see if hiphop was never sold out for MONEY back in the 80's threads like this wouldn't even exist....

A lot of the NYC heads neglected the likes of KRS and Public Enemy and wanted that Puffy shyt and the street shyt that glorified ignorance.

when the east coast had it, that shyt was amazing....the shyt nikkas was spitting back then was complex....u really had to have skill and practice ur craft....dudes was dropping gems and putting words together that would put most ivy league grads too shame

the west coast was aight, they was making some bullshyt but some of it was hott

then yall mothafukkas dumbed the shyt down to the point of no return. nobody dont even respect the artform no more, thats why cacs mock it. U southern nikkas should be ashamed of yall selves man....yall killed the music

If we're looking at how CACs are mocking us I think the over the top gangsta of the early 00's did a lot to discredit this culture. when CACs started wearing 5XL white tees wearing grills and sayin Fiddy the whole castle crumbled.
