Aside from the drug thing, I just assumed it was because there’s 37 colmados per block in DR so they just replicated that same model here since it’s one of the easiest businesses to put up back in the island.

They’re in every single way exactly like a bodega, down to the varied supplies, buy now-pay later practice, and that they’re also the neighborhood hangouts. Some of the bigger bodegas in NYC even have a butcher and sell produce so you can buy that stuff the exact same way you used to (Dominicans in DR generally don’t buy produce and meat in bulk, you buy what you’ll eat for the day). It’s like having a little piece of home.

Arab delis are not the same, and even tough they’re oftentimes bigger, I find they tend to have a less variety of things  and they all have that godawful smell that sticks to your clothes. And a lot of them don’t sell fukking beer :why:

What's dope about shyt over here too is that I could go to a bodega and get oregano from out there or cheese and dulces. I know plenty of people who come out here just to get Dominican products you can't find in other places

NYC
there fronts for drugs

and a smart way to move drugs is also using 26 foot box trucks that look like they using it to deliver food, furniture, etc..

Shut the thread down. This along with hair salons. They operate as fronts for the drug trade and illegal gambling spots especially in Washington Heights which was the center of the cocaine trade in NYC at one point.
