My mom refused to send me to a local CC cause she didn't want me to fall victim to the distraction of high school associates. Plus she knew most of the people who attended CC dropped out after the first semester or the first year and she didn't want that stigma rubbing off on me. Got accepted to other CC's hours away but she just felt like a 4 year college would push me more. The 13th grade/just going to CC to chill effect is real.

Dad is still hot about this day cause he wanted me to go to CC to save money and she wouldn't listen to him.

I've never heard of this...

But I have noticed some universities are getting stingy with the transfer credits. I swear you just can't win. It's always money, money, money.

Right. I've only heard of them granting an associate's.

I know florida has quite a few of them, and california is in the process of doing the same

CC is mostly full of dummys who arent taking college seriously but its all what you make of it
Mostly this. CCs are full of kids who did poorly in high school or just finished their GED, single parents, people who dropped out of college, older people, and people who just got released from prison.
I went to a CC while I was in high school to get college credit and the level of stupidity in most classrooms is painful.
And part of it is the marketing of college, CCs are not fun to go to, the atmosphere of colleges is supposed to be fun, relaxing, a little neurotic during final exams, and a time for everyone to grow up. Its sex, drinking, and parties.
CCs are just bastions for a lot of people who have already started failing in life and are trying to stop the slide.
That's not to say they aren't a useful resource, and if you go there specifically to do well and transfer to a highly ranked 4-year school then more power to you, but the vast, vast majority of people are going to CCs and dropping out in a year or less.

People diss them because a lot of the people that go there are the students who fukked around in grade school and didn't take school seriously. That's not to say that community colleges are bad though, I actually think it is a decent option. A thing I like about community colleges is the greater emphasis on preparing students for tangible jobs.

So long as you do your homework and make sure the credits you're taking will successfully transfer to whatever universe you plan on attending, CC is fine.
It's a good fiscal decision if you're fine with not getting that big campus feel for your first two years.
I wouldn't trade my freshman and sophomore years of college for anything but if you don't have the means financially or you're unsure what you want to major in, gor for it.
Not to mention you can qualify for amazing scholarships with GPA'S >>>>3.5 depending on where you plan to transfer.

Only thing I would advise against is that if you're going into any pre-health program (ex pre-med, pre-dental) or pre law, I'd strongly recommend saving your prerequisites for university.
No, I'm not claiming CC is inadequate, but some if the adcoms are old school and when it comes time to apply, will look down on those credits.
There is still a stigma associated with CC in that some will say it isn't as arduous. You're just eliminating all doubt when they compare transcripts and it shows you also aced Bio and Chem at UAB like the applicant they're comparing you against.
Some people successfully matriculate with pre-req credits from CC, so it's just a decision you have to make.
Bottom line, CC is a tremendous investment if you're looking to save money.

I was leaning towards a certification or degree in the science\tech realm since I'm doing the art thing on my own.

But damn am I absolutely terrible at math.

It don't get no better :whew:

@dmp

Edit: plus if you're not good at math you can always start off in college algebra or algebra trig and before you know it you'll be in calx 3 and physics 2 aka the big leagues :badass:
