Divide and conquer is a lot easier when one of the oppressed is more willing to align themselves with the oppresor

Nikkas still on this black and brown shyt in damn near 2025 will never learn:snoop:

I want policies catered and designed specifically for black people but that doesn't mean I can't respect and show love to my allies ...
We only have a few

The huelga schools were alternative schools established in Houston, Texas in the 1970s for Mexican-American students who were protesting the Houston Independent School District's (HISD) plan to integrate schools:

The HISD plan involved pairing White Mexican Americans with African American students. The Mexican-American community protested this plan and established the huelga schools to ensure that their children could continue their education.

The Huelga Schools of Houston Collection at the Houston Public Library Archives contains materials related to the schools, including correspondence, press, legal papers, and photographs
I’m just going off of the plaque in the picture you posted, but the plaque says the Mexican Americans were protesting the school board members emphasizing the white status of the Mexican American community because the board did not want to fully integrate. So Huelga schools were created for Mexican Americans who did not want to be labeled white. the school board members were probably racist but the students and protestors were not based off of that picture.

Two different perspectives

They wanted to assimilate into white society and could also weave inside racial ambiguity. They didn't carry their culture with them when they were out numbered because they didn't have to.

We wanted access to the same rights while maintaining our identity because assimilation wasn't possible. We carry our identity wherever we go
