Because the Bible is very powerful. You read that shyt, and you could be converted. Nah, I skip that shyt. I don't want some book to change my worldview. In fact, I find it offensive
You could change into a better person, and find a reason to live.
It does have entertainment value. But the genealogies and the Psalms...

Ugh. :why:

It raises several questions of morality that go unanswered. Supposedly God gives Israel 600+ laws, then Jesus doubles down and says you can be found guilty of thoughtcrime, then the apostles cut those 600 laws down to less than 10 (on the claim that Jesus abolished the law, though he said "whoever breaks the least of these commandments will be considered least in the kingdom of heaven") then Paul comes through and adds new laws. Then Revelation is a mindfukk of allegory with blood covering the earth up to the bridles of horses, Babylon the Great (Roman Empire, Catholic Church, mainstream Christianity) thotting it up with the kings of the earth and stunting until the mutant beast she rides gets tired of her and eats her up, the mark of the beast is 666 (Nero Caesar hidden in code as the Hebrew version of his name adds up to that numerically, Obama if you're racist, microchips soon to be implanted in the skin if you're paranoid, and 18 if you add them together which means you're no longer forbidden fruit and we can all look upon your nakedness without legal repercussions...although you're supposed to deaden fleshly desires so it stands to reason this mark of the beast is the sinful mark for just those who have sex out of wedlock or watch porn). Everyone who has the mark of the beast gets thrown into the lake of fire that burns forever, while the rest get to go to heaven and check out God's tent.

There's a lot of extremely graphic violence, gay and straight sexual content, strong language, and frequent hallucinogenic usage.

I'd recommend not to read it or attend religious services about it unless you're 21 or older. Doing so earlier has been proven to impair the brain's ability to distinguish the line between fantasy and reality even into old age.

Read Game of Thrones instead. Much less objectionable content and there is no evidence of it causing brain damage.
Game Of Thrones doesn't cause brain damage but the bible does? :mjpls:

Hell yes.

People know Game of Thrones isn't real. It might be loosely based on the War of the Roses, but nobody actually believes in White Walkers and dragons and shyt.

Just like the Bible is loosely based on some historical shyt, but it's mostly fantasy. Yet people live and die behind it, even kill over it. It's just not healthy.

I've been to a lot of secular black events lately and even there otherwise intelligent people are talking about how great God is and singing Christian hymns and shyt.

I wonder how many of them actually read the Bible from cover to cover. It's like when I'm watching Jeopardy and I know all the answers to the Bible questions, but damn near none of the contestants know anything about it.

I get the social value of religion. And I get the desire for people to have a higher "spiritual" purpose. Our intelligence fukks us over, because we're painfully aware of our own mortality, but we have a great imagination that helps us create comforting fantasies to reinforce the belief that our death isn't the end.

That's harmful to a person's perception of the world by itself. But when you add in Lot fukking his daughters, rape, slavery, and genocide (sanctioned by God within the context of the stories, mind you), kids being mauled to death by bears for making fun of someone's hairline, women being cut into 12 pieces, women eating their own goddamn children, plus a whole bunch more graphic and fukked up elements...

It's just not a good book. In fact, it's not even a book. It's a hodgepodge of different writings whose authors had different agendas.

At least Game of Thrones doesn't want you to put faith in it. The Jofferys and Ramsay Boltons are the villains, not the almighty hero the author tells you you should worship.

See, this is an example of the type of stupid shyt brain damaged people say when they think the Bible is divinely inspired. :camby:

It’s not the perfect word of god...duh.

But it is divinely inspired and is THE closest thing we have to truth here, I can’t stress that enough....

The Godverse
I also think people choose the wrong translation for them. Like they believe the King James Bible with all it's archaic thees, thous and thys is the only true Bible, which turns them off from it. If they read a more modern translation they would enjoy it more. :yeshrug:
