Why do people have different definitions of dark skin?

I’ve also heard a person say Nia Long isn’t dark skin either.

Dont make it so deep. The answer is because, its all relative to who you see around you. I call myself brownskin. Light spanish ppl think im dark, darkskin bp think im light.

I mean...when there are basically three words (dark, brown, light) to describe a WIDE range of skin tones, not everyone is going to agree.

It's no different than people having different definitions of what is tall, what is fat, what is good looking, etc.

Let them say their dumb opinion and keep it moving. Buffie The Body is clearly dark skinned. Nia Long can be considered dark skinned and brown skinned. Some of us are on that edge between dark and brown.

My family is ADOS with most people being between 85 and 90% West/Central African. While there are some lighter skinned folks (my mom for example), most are variations of dark brown...and mom is the only non-biracial person that probably wouldn't be classified as dark brown (more Will Smith/Beyonce kinda Black).

The light folks are all mixed with white mommas and mostly look like light skinned Blacks or medium Puerto Ricans.

We think of ourselves as "dark" but if my whole family was Sudanese dark and I was LeBron dark, maybe I'd see myself as "brown."

Like some posters already said, it’s just different perceptions.
But I do think there’s a weird little push to lump brown skin women under the light skin banner, and I hate it.
