Even some Atheists who are supposed to be scientific still deny that a human being is an animal...

I have heard "are you human or an animal?" "I am a human not an animal" and variations of this statement so many times, and I keep thinking to myself "you are an animal"...

I had a client who was suffering from anorexia nervosa, and she was trying to justify her reasons for refusing to eat, with me, and I told her "Your refusal to eat is not logical because you are an animal and animals have to eat to survive"...

Now, she was Christian, so it REALLY pissed her off, and she reported me to my supervisor...

But I noticed even Atheists get offended when I remind them that a human is just an animal motivated by the same basic goals as other animals (sustenance, shelter/security and sex) , the difference is just the methods we use to these goals...

It seems like religion/spirituality will always exist in the human population

So being religious makes a man unscientific? :francis:
Yes,

Science makes religion redundant...I was in anatomy cutting up a dead body, and kept thinking to myself "where is the soul?" ...

Looking at that body convinced me even more that outside individual perception, killing a human being is no different than spraying an insect with Raid...

However, I am glad there are very few people in the world who think this way. because this kind of thinking is detrimental to the survival of our species...

So in one way, I understand why it is important for us Humans to separate ourselves from other animals, it benefits our survival...

But still, we are just animals like the rest...We don't have souls and spirits like many would like to believe...We are just a collection of cells functioning (for the most part) beyond our conscious control...

because people want to believe life is more than just living to reproduce then die.
But that is what science tells us life is...

All the actions we take is ultimate to obtain sustenance, feel safe and have sex...If you are not able to do this, you decrease your chances of having children, you die childless and your genes are lost...

Those who are able to do this, have children and the genes are passed on to increase the probability that the cycle will continue...

This what it comes down to if you believe in evolution, natural selection and survival of the fittest...

I do.

Your view of the world seems like it focuses a little too much on what we were...

I would advise you to focus more on what we can become and try to figure out your role in that.

If an individual or a species has evolved to have faculties that have the capacity to do more than reacting in fear or violence then why look back at the history of fear and violence
as the basis for how that individual or species should act now... The smart move would be to search for that next step in the evolutionary process. The dumb move would be to set arbitrary
limits on what man can become.

(1) My view on the world tries to focus on what really matters...Pun intended...

(2) Whatever we become through the process of evolution will be within the limits of the physical laws that govern the Universe...

(3) There is no special role for any single human being in that...Think about Earth 1 Billion years from now, will the species then celebrate Albert Einstein...

I doubt it...
