If an individual or a species has evolved to have faculties that have the capacity to do more than reacting in fear or violence then why look back at the history of fear and violence
as the basis for how that individual or species should act now... The smart move would be to search for that next step in the evolutionary process. The dumb move would be to set arbitrary
limits on what man can become.

There are easier places to start. By looking at what other men have accomplished over the millennia we should be able to see what we are capable of now and then push those boundries.

No need to waste decades or centuries waiting for someone's theory to be proven right or wrong.

(1) Basically, a poster makes a thread "which one do you prefer, Ice Cream vs Yogurt"

(2) I enter the thread and state "I prefer yogurt especially Greek yogurt because it has high protein and low fat content, and since proteins do almost everything in your body, yogurt is more nutritious and thus, logically the better choice"...

(3) Another poster enters the thread, reads my comment, becomes offended because Ice Cream helped him through some emotionally troubled times...he responds with an "You are such an idiot who had a miserable childhood...Take this negs along with that"...

(4) Pretty much...
Very little attempt is ever made to discredit the actual points being proposed...It comes down to "What you are stating hurts my feelings, so for me feel empowered again, I will do something about it and neg rep you"...

(5) It is a VERY human reaction...When you feel violated, you look for ways to gain back some power whichever way you can...So, I understand the behavior...It is important part of recovery...

(1) I love being a Human and I believe if we keep the wars to a minimum and continue on this current path of discovery, we will achieve the unimaginable...

(2) But the Laws of Physics that govern our existence on Earth are pretty much well understood...We may evolve to run faster, jump higher, live even much longer...But that superstitious bending spoons with your mind and such is HIGHLY unlikely...

If that is what your implying...

(3) My opinion is everything that we see other living things do is possible e.g. limb regeneration, living long and healthy, carrying 10x more than your body weight and such...

If you don't see it in other living things, the chances of it being possible are VERY slim...

There is no concrete evidence or proof that man is just a physical, just like there isn't concrete proof to the contrary.

But the mere fact that science exists should let you know that there is a higher order of understanding or knowledge that science is attempting to gain a hold of.

(1) I am not assuming that we are just physical beings...It is a fact...On macroscopic level, we know with a high degree of confidence how electron, protons and neutrons behave...

We know the forces that dictate the behavior of atoms on an "everyday life" level...

(2) The evidence is as concrete as it gets...The only thing that exist is the physical human being...Even the human "mind" is not a mystic...It is the physical activity of the brain...

Life on Earth comes down to a series of chemical reactions and mixtures...

(3) As neuroscience keeps developing, we will know even more about the brain...And even more superstition will be proven wrong...This the trend I am basing my projections on...

When humans don't understand, they create a mystic, then a scientist comes along and explains the phenomenon, and we move on to the next mystic...

(4) I have worked with people suffering from mental illnesses and Alzheimers/Dementia...When you lose enough neurons and/or your neurons stop functioning properly, you get 'demonic possession'...

If you see a psychotic patient, then it is not hard to imagine why people 2000 years ago will use demonic possession to explain the erratic behaviors...

I have seen an old lady become catatonic, and then the same lady after a few sessions of electro-convulsive therapy...The change is a MIRACLE...

Just more evidence that there are no souls/spirits...You have a mind which is a function of the brain...Thus, it is PHYSICAL...

I would suggest that you all try to learn new skills...and over time work on mastering those skills.

the human part of you will fail to master most, if not all of the skills you will attempt. but then, eventually, something else might kick in and start helping you to see that you are more than chunks of meat. You will see that there are other parts of you.

But that is what science tells us life is...

All the actions we take is ultimate to obtain sustenance, feel safe and have sex...If you are not able to do this, you decrease your chances of having children, you die childless and your genes are lost...

Those who are able to do this, have children and the genes are passed on to increase the probability that the cycle will continue...

This what it comes down to if you believe in evolution, natural selection and survival of the fittest...
