Why do people think Boston is a racist city?

The Red Sox' home stadium is on street called Yawkey Way, named after the team's former owner, an avowed white supremacist who refused to put Black people on the team until he had absolutely no choice but to fall in line with the tide of "integration" in baseball. But even after that, the environment was still very hostile to black players on the team.

Boston, like every other city in America, is filled with racist whites who hate Black people.

It's funny that some people still have this image of southern whites going around lynching blacks and terrorizing them whilst a cowed black population lives in perpetual fear of their lives. :mjlol:

no one is living in fear but there tends to be a lot more ignorance the further south you go :sas2:

Cornball nikka trying to underplay his city's racism just because he lives there.

I don't throw out c00n too often but...
A lot of #newblack cornballs in this thread talking some

I mean, I guess I was lucky cuz I never really experienced any racism. All my white friends are cool. The white people in Boston are chill. It's the whites in the suburbs who are racist. Boston is mad diverse. Lots of different races and we all get along pretty well.

#newblacks walk through life with whitewashed sunglasses. They never see racism. Since Blacks aren't hanging from trees in Boston, it's not that bad. :mjlol:

Growing up as a black man in Cambridge/Boston I agree that Boston is segregated in terms of racial demographics, but Boston is no more racist than any other city in America. I've lived in and around the midwest the last couple of years for grad school, and feel the race relations are worse here than at home, especially where I am currently (southwest michigan). I'm convinced most people feel Boston is racist solely because they are aware that there is a large Irish demographic, and thats enough in their minds. Neglecting the fact there is a sizable Cape Verdean, Haitian, and Brazilian population as well. :manny:

People on the Coli don't like Seattle or Portland either, two of the most liberal, progressive, non hateful places in the U.S.

I know some folks who've gone there and they said the downtown area is OK but that blacks should stay out of the white residential areas which are racist as hell.

I was gonna post the shyt about the racist tweets towards the hockey player but it's already been posted.

Yeah OP don't try to shift the blame from your racist ass city towards Philly. Philly hate everybody equally. Word to Santa Claus.

boston and cities like it (eg Pittsburgh) with large amounts of working class whites tend to be more racist cause working class cacs are not afraid of showing out their racism while the yuppies keep it on the low. in nyc working class whites are no different from those in boston ask anyone about areas like gerritsen beach, howard beach, and most of staten island or working class areas outside the city.

This. Irish/Italians in the NE are damn near as racist as southern whites, and probably more aggressive with it due to their more goonish nature. I used to live in Morris Park in the Bronx, and this crazy ass lady who lived upstairs from us just keyed our car up one day, didn't like us from the start.

I think the (coastal dominated) media focuses on southern racism and downplays the shyt up north so they can keep casting southerners/"hicks" as a boogeyman and keep telling themselves that they're progressive and not racist. But in fact, sometimes I think the present day racism up north is more insidious because it's strongly expressed through residential segregation, which has major effects on property values and school districts.

Some of you have a really odd way of interpreting racism.

If you're Black and live in a major city, you are experiencing racism all the time, whether you realize it or not. You think, unless they're calling you ******, the whites you encounter aren't being racist.

You're wrong.
