ugh, I hope not. I can't even think of five tracks (OF HIS) where he wasn't outshone by the guest(s).

Because this is a hip hop forum that was specifically created for topics like this...

Now I have a even better question than yours, why do you care to ask why everyone cares, and if you don't care why indirectly act like you do ?

I ask because I find it curious that people that dislike Kanye like to talk about him so much

more non-fans talk about Kanye than any other artist I can think of

you capitalized the wrong word

I didn't, because rapping is an important part of Hip Hop, I'm gonna judge a Hip Hop artists largely on their rapping, if you doing autotune singing that isn't even Hip Hop.

At some point it becomes subjective but on one level I can understand how a 17-25 year will view a guy like kanye as one of if not the goat. But if we look at it from a sports perspective, I've seen 19-23 year olds tell me Lebron & KD are the two goat but they never saw MJ, magic, bird etc... But the difference is with music you can go back & listen to illmatic, OB4CL, me against the world & so forth & see that early mid 90s rap is far superior to what we have today.

To me kanye is just a producer who happens rap, I never heard a kanye verse where I had to rewind 5x because the lines were so ill, but that's being a MC which he clearly isn't. But if we're judging by todays standards, he's elite & I check for his albums to hear what sounds & concepts he came up with but he not even in my top 25 as far as goat rappers.

in all honesty, i feel like as great as nas, jay, pac and big are, why do they automatically get included ahead of dudes like rakim, kane, g rap, krs etc. i dont doubt their greatness. but it would be hard to say any of those dudes are better than the OG Goat contenders.

i will concede that they are the best of the 90's and everything that came after, but i feel like a lot of 80's legends get short shrifted when it comes to these debates.

and kanye isn't anywhere near top 30 let alone top 5. he just another eminem. dominates the conversation so takes up all the space. i like kanye, but there have been waaaaaaaaaaaay too many dope artists in rap, even one hit wonders, or one album wonders, from all over the country for kanye to just come and unsurp them that easily. and its no shame to be less than them.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Everything these days is a "right now" culture it seems. Music especially. You gotta keep in mind that he's not a new jack anymore. Kanye's been in the game known for 15+ years now, and been a well known Multi-Platinum rapper/producer for over a decade. You have people that literally grew up on his albums that could be in their mid 20's by now. Not to mention people like me that started checking for him late high school and early college. And I'm 30 now and I was a fan just on the producer angle since he did This Can't Be Life and The Truth.

Think about a kid that's 24 that loves Kanye. They were what, 13 when College Dropout came out? Kanye's first few albums would've been coming of age albums to someone like that, who never got to experience Pac or Big at all first hand, and even only experienced Jay and Nas when they were out of their prime. Jay would've been retired for most of that person's life in high school, which is where most of us find that music that really speaks to u. And then to wonder why they put Kanye above Big and Pac?

Time is moving on man.

That's the reason IMHO.
Hip Hop is one of the only cultures that's on some now shyt...in other genres the legends are respected and just cause artists are doin their thing now don't automatically put them over their past pioneers...it's their responsibility to go back and check the past shyt..see where shyt comes from etc...if u don't feel like u need to go back and check the older shyt..the classics..and all that comes with the culture u listen to...u have NO right to be talking about top 5 in the first place....cause u don't even have the knowledge of reference...stay out of grown folks conversations if that's the case...

He has put out good to great music the last 15 yrs so I could see him in the Top 5 artists but as a rapper...I could name 100 rappers better than him. Anyone putting Kayne in the Top 5 EMCEEs is either disrespecting or ignorant to the history and art & craft of EMCEEing

I'm 24, and I 100% agree with your statement. Kanye's Late Registration was so inspirational in high school, one of the best Hip Hop albums in history. The Graduation album was also that for me, it came out in my senior year of HS, so it's kind of ironic for me. Great times to be a Kanye fan

Still don't put him in my Top 10 though :mjlol:
