Why do quotes mess up when you try to edit them?

This thing is annoying as hell. If I type a quote and then try to edit it later, the quote brackets disappear and then a "click to expand" thing shows up. Anybody else seeing this? This didn't happen before.

I have the same problem, not as often as you since you always go back and edit your posts 12 times.
