Why do "real hip-hop heads" front like they weren't hating on Biggie/Pac/etc 10 years ago?

Pretty sure I birthed this thread with a couple of my posts in another thread...and I'm afraid the OP won't be able to do the argument justice...so here are the pertinent portions

Also the "real hip hop son!" crowd =/= the core hip-hop audience....the "real hip hop son!" crowd is actually a small, vocal minority contingent of the core hip hop populace that likes to pretend they have sole ownership of hip hop...but actually lost that war way back in the mid-90's ("I USED to Love Her", ironically enough being one of their theme songs in the same vein "Dixieland" is beloved by Confederate loyalists over a century after the south lost the Civil War)...they were the crowd hating on Biggie for the "Big Willy-ism" or whatever back then...hating on Jay-Z and Cash Money and DMX in the late 90's and so on so forth....since they lost the Hip Hop Culture Wars way back in the Biggie/Tupac days, they've been largely marginalized and don't really have much sway as to the direction of hip hop or what's actually the most impactful acts in the game...other than echo chambers of perpetual complaint on various corners of the internet...the backlash from those types towards Drake for example, has meant something very closely approximating not a goddamned thing :heh: ...he's still been one of the singular defining figures in hip hop for years now...which is something Common has never approached being at any point of his career and what I meant by standing

The ACTUAL core hip hop audience = all of the lil subset fanbases of hip hop culture put together...so in theory the "real hip hop son!" crowd isn't the entirety of hip hop's base anymore than "southern trap rap" or "west coast gangsta rap" fans...in practical terms, they prolly hold less sway than trap just based on recent rap trends, but slightly besides the point....

The core as you're describing it (the "real hip hop son!" crowd), absolutely did lose the war...acts that were being vilified as killing hip hop by that crowd back then....see: Dr. Dre, Pac, Ice Cube and pretty much the entirety of West Coast Gangsta Rap that Common decried on I USED to Love and Biggie and later his symbolic successor Jay-Z and the entirety of East Coast Flossy Big Willy-ism as attacked by Jeru, BCC and mocked by The Roots....have been now been exalted as hip hop's most holy and iconic figures...people pretend like they were never under fire as the big bad mainstream acts and universally loved, retroactively making them saints in "real hip hop son!' mythology on some Catholic Church tricknology type shyt and just apply that same sentiment to the newer acts making their mark on the current scene (and it's a perpetual process...the real hip hop heads used to crucify Cash Money when they first blew, now all we hear is how much of a classic 400 Degreez and how Mannie Fresh is untouchable rap legend :pachaha:)...but it's a wrap, that shyt has been out the window...commerce didn't win over art and integrity as much as it became embraced as one of the factors, though not the only one...the corporations dont have more sway than the actual hip hop populace, to me that's just an excuse as to when people don't agree with who the populace has actually chosen...no amount of corporate push is gonna make hip hop go crazy and wild when Macklemore or Flo Rida drops a random remix verse

And obviously these aren't literally the same exact people (dudes that were wide-eyed pre-teens and teens and loved Big and Pac back then, obviously still love them now)...just their symbolic and spiritual successors that hold basically the same sentiment, but lack the sense of perspective to see how it's just the same shyt repeating itself like a cycle...essentially the conservative far right wing of hip hop

He's absolutely right.. There was a point when the B.I.G. hate was STRONG ... "Purist" were steaming when Big came wit Hypnotized! LOL (To be honest, some of em was even dissin JUICY when it first came out..SMH). What they didn't realize at the time was, Big was making some of the dopest Hip Hop/club/radio music we would EVER HEAR! (Money Mo problems, Hypnotized, Juicy, Get Money, Playas Anthem, Big Poppa, Only You, etc...) Alot of the same dudes that was dissin THAT back hold it as the STANDARD now... The same thing happened to Nas, he dropped if I ruled the world.. The "Purist" were a lil agitated wit the glossiness of it, but they couldn't go HAM on him yet cause it had the beloved Lauryn Hill on it (She could do no wrong at the time), But they wasn't necessarily "wit it"... Ohhh, but HATE ME NOW!.. WHEW..when he dropped HATE ME NOW the hate levels were EPIC.. (the white fur, the tigers, the Bentley, the strippers, Leather Suits, explosions.. ALL DAT).. and to top it off.. He was rockin wit DIDDY. Mannn, the "Back Packers" lost they mind! (Not realizing HATE ME NOW would become a CLASSIC and one of his biggest records on one of his Biggest albums to date) Listen to the irony... Nas lost some of his MOST HARDCORE HIP HOP FANS when he dropped HATE ME NOW! (Sounds crazy right). Shall I continue? They HATED Jay when he dropped RD (They called it "Champagne Rap").. LOL.. Matter fact... "I seen the SAME THING HAPPEN TO KANE".. Kane was the MAN, until he started bangin famous white chicks, and doin joints wit the likes of Quincy Jones, Barry White, and Patti Labelle...Think about it, Drizzy would be GOD right now if he had a Quincy Jones track ft. Barry White and Patti Labelle.. (and was doin nude photo spreads wit Katy Perry and Serena).. No WAY would we diss him for that in 2013... They FRONTED on KANE HARD for the Madonna and Naomi Campbell FLICKS! Imagine that now......Rapper gets dissed for havin menage wit the Biggest female POPSTAR IN MUSIC and a top 5 Dead or Alive SUPERMODEL.. PS.. and took flicks..

Thats Hip Hop for ya though! Gotta love it...

No the same thing cannot be said for Nas, most of those Big songs were huge hits & actual classics, hate me now was a corny minor hit & is only a classic to Nas stans. Carry on.

Ps... This new generation needs like two more HITTAS... They ONLY got one who can legitimately compete on an all time level RIGHT NOW.. and dats Drake... J. Cole and Kendrick are getting fresher, but I can't mention them wit da likes of a Nas, Hov, Jay, Pac, Em, Dre 3k, Wayne.. etc... Drake is the ONLY ONE I could JUSTIFY throwin into the conversation.. Kendrick and Cole aint there yet.. (I will says Cole's bars have gotten TREMENDOUSLY better from album 1 to 2).. and Kendrick already has a couple of CLASSIC songs under his belt! So maybe they'll develop into that.. Big Sean and Asap Rocky are also respectable representation for this current era.. But until n*ggas REALLY "ARGUE ALL DAY ABOUT WHO's da best MC? Drizzy, Kendrick, or Cole"... Yall got some work to DO! If Drizzy, Kendrick, and Cole are your HIP HOP HOLY TRINITY (Which every GOLDEN ERA has)... den this generation is the 2004 USA MENS OLYMPIC BASKETBALL TEAM... Bronze at BEST! Lol... but look on da Bright side... at least yall got LEBRON! (I'm just f*ckin around, I think all those dudes i mentioned are dope). Fortunately the bar for GREATNESS in hip hop has been set pretty high, hopefully some of those guys will be able to achieve that level of skill at some point in the future.. Drizzy is the ONLY on out of the current bunch, who ALREADY HAS...(IMO)

Check da scoreboard homie... I AM did 2.1 Mill.. (2nd highest selling Nas album to date)... Check da source Awards in L.A. AFTER BIGGIE died when NAS and Puff performed HATE ME NOW.. den come back and holla at me.. I said CLASSIC song.. not MOST PLAYED song.. and I think I also specified BIGGEST song on one of NAS biggest ALBUMS.. I don't think i'm the only one who would consider HATE ME NOW a hip hop classic.. Ps. I've never relied on Nas for my dose of radio/club songs... LOL..

I bumped both of them cuz I'm a hip hop head.I always though biggie was the better of the 2.I'd be fronting If I said I didn't cop pacs albums and wasn't a fan back

The way pac has a cult following and is worshiped and talked about like he's god now is :snoop:

People are going to have opinions. There are no universals and absolutes. Just because Biggie and Pac may have been unfairly maligned by some, doesnt some how validate the following generation of rap stars, who bottomed out the artistic quality of hip hop.

Besides, this can cut both ways. Underground rappers, and fans, have long been stereotyped as geeky, jealous, untalented, sea of immortal techniques with little in the way of ability, when there have been countless underground talents who never received their just due, largely owed to industry politics and/or lack of connections.

Its just embarrassing to me that cats like Black milk, Lil brother, Last Emperor, just to name a quick few were marginalized as "underground", while cats like Soulja Boy blew up.

I don't need all that retrospective reaching because i remember it. Hate me now was not big. Great sample, Puff's GOAT hook...but at the end of the day nikkas was bootlegging the instrumental. Nas was out of his element, shyt was corny and most peoples reaction was :ld:That's just the truth.

Talk about scoreboards talk about how Hate me now did not even crack top 60 on chart...In an era where urban music dominated. pfffft you comparing it to shyt like mo money mo problems.

''AFTER BIGGIE died'':childplease: Capital letter and all huh? Like Nas made us forget about BIG right after he died or some shiht fucc outta here shyt was damn near 3 years after big died. You get another:childplease: 4 dat 1 you sneaky bastid

& this the performance you hyping up?

:heh:Epic beat, huge stage effects and the crowd is still dead at that ghetto ass award show, Jay-z had liver crowds at the fukking MTV awards. L.A wasn't feeling lost Nas & his Pac imitations can't say i blame em :ehh: neither was we.
