I was able to diagnose my Woman's friend with a Thyroid issue just based on her ethnicity, symptoms and age, etc. She is Japanese and does not get enough iodine. Thyroid problems are extremely common in America among Women after they pass a certain age. Japanese Women living in Japan do not have thyroid issues because they consume 10x-20x the iodine RDA.

The Dr. she went to misdiagnosed her with a kidney issue or something lengthening the time to get the proper treatment. I am not a licensed MD and frequently I am able to help friends with chronic ailments more than their PCP. The key however is to see a specialist. PCPs aren't worth jack shyt. A Urologist certainly can help you more than I can regarding kidney stones or urinary issues. But I beat most PCPs in knowledge of differential diagnosis. And I'm a fukking amateur. That's not saying a lot for our medical system.

Dont take your experience and apply it to the whole system. Studies show the rate of death goes down for every primary care doctor added to an area, while the rate of death goes up for every specialist added. If you know better, go to medical school, become a doctor and do better than the ones you claim to be more knowledgeable than. I agree the medical system is full of people whose only concern is getting paid. But like i said earlier, no one forces you to go. You can always get a 2nd opinion or a third or however many until you feel comfortable. But dont die from ignorance, see your primary care doctor, get physicals, bloodwork etc.

Besides doctors input that shyt into databases to spit out an answer, themselves -- those that don't leave a nurse practitioner to do all their work for them.

Doctors are pill pushers. The old style country doctor doesn't exist in most of the US. There's limited time to examine, diagnose and treat. Coverage also determines care ... and therefore diagnosis.

Introduce cultural and gender differences, and it's a wrap.

It's ultimately up to patients to regulate their own health, including weighing costs versus benefits. Doctors are not god. They know shyt but they ultimately only collect a check. You are a statistic. You are your best advocate.

That's not the same as stopping treatment because you feel better. That's patient error.

United Healthcare has a lot of online tools available to calculate estimated costs, Dr. ratings and now they even book appointments for you and ensure the Dr. is in-network.

and here's the second tard. if only all these medical students knew about this thing called the 'internet' that saves you all the years of study and learning where you can just 'look up symptoms' and cure people. someone should alert them at once to save them time and money.

Calm down buddy. You don't got to the Internet for search? Never said I was a medical student either. You are stupid to think that there isn't a wealth of knowledge about issues that may need a doctors opinion. Hell you can chat with actual doctors online.

I have taken my kids to the doctor and this dude was basically reading me questions from his computer. Some of the questions I already anwsered(from searching)when the nurse asked us what's wrong before he even entered the room.

I have also went to a doctor and know exactly what meds he was going to prescribe. All this is minor stuff l, thats why I said not all.

You the dumbass going to the doctor for a headache? What about a muscle cramp what if your kid is a little warmly 2am? Your not gonna try a few home remedies before you take him to emergency($500+)only for them to send you home with childrens Tylenol?

I not even talking about old ass doctors who arent on the cutting edge of medicine.

I said nothing about curing cancer. Funny thing is you can now screen yourself for cancer at home when a while ago you couldn't.
