I'm just now finding out that SYSBM is a slick pro-pawg slogan
I thought it just meant to not rely on anyone and to look out for self first
That is what it generally is meant to be. Part of it is based in the idea that black men can only rely on themselves, not any other group. Some have taken that to mean that they should pawg. Since the core of it is letting a black man do what he feels is right for himself, they are allowed to do as they see fit as long as they are not hurting anybody. But this is the problem, a lot of black men do not feel appreciated by their community. They don't. And it's not even appreciation, just basic human decency. A lot of black men have to deal with people who will either test them or try and rile them up when that individual black man has done nothing to deserve it. And when he comments on it, he is either met with deflection, whataboutism, and people trying to claim how real men should behave, all the while ignoring the fact that the very issues of white supremacy often used as an explanation or excuse for other groups still applies to black men too. Barring that, a person should not have to earn simple human decency.
This thread is a perfect example of that. The same way white people and white supremacists will twist shyt that black people advocate for to preserve themselves (black power, black lives matter (the sentiment, not the organization)) into something negative, is often how some black men feel is done to their own talking points and ideas. Personally, I've said it before, it feels like I'm talking to white supremacists all too often on this board. Some of the shyt seen in other places is no different than shyt found on /pol/ yet people still turn a blind eye to it.
In the end, some black men do not feel as if they are part of the community. The same community that will claim that they need black men (when they can twist their mouths to finally admit it), would rather do so through overzealous admonishment rather than simply asking as other communities would ask of their men. It's weird and to some black men, it feels like they're dealing with idiots. No one has time for that shyt, certainly not black men.
